PLANTS FOR POLLINATORS IN OREGON Native pollinators are a vital part of our environment. Pollinators are essential for the reproduction of native plants, as well as many crops. Pollinators include some bird and bat species and a wide array of insect species, but bees are the most important for our agricultural landscapes. Native bees are becoming more important pollinators for crop plants in light of recent challenges to honey bee keepers across the U.S., namely Colony Collapse Disorder and the variety of other ailments honey bees face. As a group, pollinators are threatened world-wide by habitat loss and fragmentation, pesticides, introduced diseases and parasites. Habitat enhancement for pollinators can also support other beneficial insects. For example, maintaining native sources of nectar and pollen, as well as protecting or establishing nest sites, provides important resources for other insects which might parasitize or predate upon harmful crop pests. -

Checklist of Montana Vascular Plants June 1, 2011 By Scott Mincemoyer Montana Natural Heritage Program Helena, MT This checklist of Montana vascular plants is organized by Division, Class and Family. Species are listed alphabetically within this hierarchy. Synonyms, if any, are listed below each species and are slightly indented from the main species list. The list is generally composed of species which have been documented in the state and are vouchered by a specimen collection deposited at a recognized herbaria. Additionally, some species are included on the list based on their presence in the state being reported in published and unpublished botanical literature or through data submitted to MTNHP. The checklist is made possible by the contributions of numerous botanists, natural resource professionals and plant enthusiasts throughout Montana’s history. Recent work by Peter Lesica on a revised Flora of Montana (Lesica 2011) has been invaluable for compiling this checklist as has Lavin and Seibert’s “Grasses of Montana” (2011). Additionally, published volumes of the Flora of North America (FNA 1993+) have also proved very beneficial during this process. The taxonomy and nomenclature used in this checklist relies heavily on these previously mentioned resources, but does not strictly follow anyone of them. The Checklist of Montana Vascular Plants can be viewed or downloaded from the Montana Natural Heritage Program’s website at: http://mtnhp.org/plants/default.asp This publication will be updated periodically with more frequent revisions anticipated initially due to the need for further review of the taxonomy and nomenclature of particular taxonomic groups (e.g. Arabis s.l ., Crataegus , Physaria ) and the need to clarify the presence or absence in the state of some species. -

To relocate as many rare plant populations as possible that have putatively been recognized in past surveys, but for which insufficient location data is available. 2. To enter collected data for any listed rare plant populations that are discovered into the NRIS TES Plants national database. INTRODUCTION A prodigious list of vascular plant species has been assembled within the confines of the Umatilla National Forest over nearly 30‐years of botanical survey efforts beginning approximately in 1984. The first was begun by Karl Urban, and subsequently by a long procession of other forest botanists and plant technicians, both seasonal and permanent employees. This forest vascular plant species list now totals nearly 1500 species and subtaxa. Amongst this list are several species that were either already documented on the forest, and were unintentionally overlooked, were not listed as being rare at the time – and were added to a rare species list at a later date, or that have been recognized as rare via the use of recently constructed regionally‐extensive spatial databases such as is presently available at the Consortium of Pacific Northwest Herbaria (CPNWH) website: http://www.pnwherbaria.org/data/search.php. Amongst the latter group several potential new state records were also included. -

Report of the Intermountain Native Plants Cooperative Volume 5 December 2013 An annual report of research and extension activities for members of WERA-1013, Intermountain Regional Evaluation and Introduction of Native Plants Report of the Intermountain Native Plants Cooperative Volume 5 – December 2013 Forward The Intermountain Native Plants Cooperative, initiated in 2007, is a group of researchers who share an interest in utilizing native plants in arid urban landscapes, sharing research-based information, and exchanging superior germplasm. All are members of WERA-1013, Intermountain Regional Evaluation and Introduction of Native Plants, an officially recognized Western Education/Extension and Research Activity. The Report of the Intermountain Native Plants Cooperative is published annually and contains announcements of studies in progress by members and updates of germplasm evaluations. Some of the various research reports include work on such diverse topics as the selection criteria of native plants for urban landscapes, sexual and asexual propagation techniques of unique plants, native plant breeding techniques, native plant genetic diversity studies, evaluations on weediness of native plants in the urban landscapes and many other native plant related studies.
