A diskette is enclosed. Approximately 100 media representatives attended the opening of the Cyprus talks at Troutbeck for which DPI provided TV and photo coverage. UN TV pooled the television coverage which was transmitted via satellite to news syndicators such as Reuters, WTN, CNN and APTV. The coverage included the arrivals of the Secretary-General, Mr. Glafcos Clerides and Mr. Rauf Denktash; the photo opportunity of the Secretary-General and the two leaders; the statement of the Secretary-General; various exterior shots, as well as the dinner hosted by the Secretary-General at his residence the evening prior to the opening of the talks. UN Photo gave full coverage to the event and 10 selected prints were made available and dispatched directly by the wire agencies present at Troutbeck. The audio feed of the Secretary-General's statement was immediately fed to the International Broadcast Centre. Tapes of his remarks were immediately given to the media and to DPI radio producers for their programmes. The movement of the 100 accredited media to various areas on the grounds for stand-up operations was coordinated by DPI, which also managed the press operation in the main hall which served as a media centre with telephone and fax lines for the prompt filing of news reports. Arrangements are being made for a media kit and media outreach in conjunction with the launch of the Secretary-General's report on reform scheduled for 16 July. DPI Radio Service has won two awards in the prestigious New York Festivals international radio competition. "The Child Sex Trade" - a four-part series which explores the global problem of the commercial sexual exploitation of children - received the Silver World Medal. The New York Festivals also awarded a Finalist Award to a second programme, "A Story of War and Rape in Bosnia and Herzegovina". The programme chronicles the ordeals of two Bosnian women in the infamous Omaraska camp, their escape and their attempt to heal. The two programmes were selected from among 2,000 entries from more than 30 countries and competed against programmes submitted by leaders in international broadcasting such as the BBC, the CBC, RFI, Australia Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), as well as ESPN Radio and WGBH Radio in Boston. A DPI video and photo team accompanied Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Yasushi Akashi to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. A comprehensive video and photograph package was released in Tokyo. This was widely used by the international media and depicted the food and nutrition situation in the country. UN Radio programmes in Chinese are now on the Internet. Effective Monday, 14 July, Infinity Interactive, Inc. will carry free-of-charge a UN Web page on its Twnet Broadcasting Networks for weekly programmes in Chinese and English. Infinity Interactive, Inc. estimates it receives about 14,000 hits per day. Posters for the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Decade of Indigenous People are being finalized in consultation with Centre for Human Rights. DPI is participating in several meetings to evaluate lessons learned and any difficulties encountered in the preparations and convening of the 19th Special Session of the General Assembly, Earth Summit+5. DPI is also conducting an informal internal evaluation of its media outreach activities in particular. The Department is receiving hundreds of press articles from UNICs/UNISs which will be forwarded to the Division for Sustainable Development (DSD). Advance copies of articles are being provided to DSD as they are received. Proactive outreach continues for the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. This includes the involvement of United Nations Information Centres in the nine countries that are submitting reports to this session of CEDAW, contact with UNCA members from or interested in those countries, and UN Radio interviews, among other activities. A press conference will be organized by DPI at the end of the session. The UNICEF Summitry Works Exhibit is currently being installed in the Public Lobby, with the official opening scheduled for Tuesday, 15 July 1997. An exhibit of children's paintings from around the world entitled "Visions of My City", sponsored by UNDP and the Boys and Girls Club of Atlanta in conjunction with the International Conference on Governance for Sustainable Growth and Equity, is being prepared for showing in the public lobby from 28 July - 15 August. DPI is co-sponsoring with Walt Disney Home Video the world premier of the children's film, "Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin", to take place at Headquarters on 31 July 1997..
