High quality reprintsBy A.SingerThis is the first Disney boxed set I have purchased. I am not someone who knows all of the details of Mickey Mouse, I just have fond memories of watching the cartoon years ago and of seeing the comic strip now and then so I thought it would be fun to have at least one of these sets. I was not disappointed at all with the quality of these books. What I was disappointed with is that corners of the slipcover were bent. I reported this to in my packaging feedback and it wasn't enough for me to want to wait for a replacement so I kept it. I just received another box set today though, Peanuts, which is also a Fantagraphics product, and the slipcover is also damaged (more than the Disney set). So now I'm wondering if they are this way when receives them or if it's a problem in the shipment packaging by 's warehouse. I think these collectible gifts sets should be wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in a box that is just big enough so that they don't get banged around. Obviously this is a handling issue, and doesn't take away from the product itself but I wanted others to be aware and make sure that you let know if yours arrives banged up.Since I'm not a "collector" and purchased this and the Peanuts set just for fun, it's not worth waiting for a replacement and having to go to the post office or UPS to return the other even though makes returns very easy. So I am keeping them both, but someone who is buying these as a collector may want to make sure they get one that is in truly new condition.Either way, I think anyone who has an affinity for "the mouse" will love holding and reading these fun books. Kudos to Fantagraphics for a nice presentation of a fun product.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful Mickey Mouse gift-set!By Robert J. MuellerThis is a beautiful slip-cased two-volume gift-set of the Mickey Mouse Sunday pages from 1932 to 1938. The reproduction is crisp and the colors of the Sunday pages are vibrant. My only complaint about the production values is that the hard cover boards tend to warp slightly if the books are out of the slipcase for very long. The artwork is stunning throughout the books, However, Floyd Gottfredson mainly did one-off gags on his Sunday pages, which are not as interesting as the long continuities which he did for his daily Mickey Mouse strip. When he does do a Sunday continuity it is always a pretty good story and the visuals are amazing when seen in full color. This is overall a wonderfully produced set of books and would make a terrific gift for young adults who love the Disney characters. It is not, however, a true children's book. Most young kids would not appreciate the comic strip format of storytelling. But adults who love a good adventure story or beautiful artwork will appreciate this gift-set.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Perfect in every way!By BlizzardThis collection is an absolute delight. Outstanding reproduction of the Sunday Mickey Mouse by the great Gottfredson. And at slightly under 30 bucks for over 500 pages in color it's definitely a steal. Now if only some smart publisher would collect the stories of the other great Mickey Mouse artist: Paul Murry, who with Carl Fallberg (writer) created those fantastic serials in the 1950's and early 1960's. Just think: gems such as "The Last Resort", "The Marvelous Magnet", "The Idol of Moaning Island", "The Threat of the Stone-Eaters", "Pineapple Poachers etc. collected with the same care and attention to detail that Fantagraphics put in the Gottfredson volumes under review! I'm sure there's a market for them. A gift set of the first and second Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Color Sunday's volumes, in a handsome and durable slipcase.Just in time for the holidays! This collection of books?identical to the individual volumes?ships shrinkwrapped, with the two hardcovers "Call Of The Wild" (volume 1) and "Robin Hood Rides Again" (volume 2), packed in a sturdy custom box designed especially for this set. The perfect gift item. Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Color Sundays Vol. 1 "Call Of The Wild"We’re jumping from black and white to classic color?as Floyd Gottfredson’s Mickey Mouse series makes its 1932-35 Sunday strip debut! Bright hues highlight our hero as he enjoys four years’ worth of wild weekend epics... taking him from Uncle Mortimer’s Wild West ranch to the icy peak of frigid Mount Fishflake! And in this volume, Mickey is joined by a famous co-star: Donald Duck! Floyd Gottfredson, artist of the Sunday Mickey Mouse from 1932-38, created the most famous Mickey tales ever told in print. These Sunday specials?many never before reprinted?also feature the work of later Donald Duck master Al Taliaferro. Collectively, they form a collection that fans have been seeking for a lifetime! Highlights include “Mickey’s Nephews,” introducing Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse, and “Dr. Oofgay’s Secret Serum,” which turns Horace Horsecollar into a brainwashed wild mustang! Classic gag stories round out the book, offering manic Mouse mischief at a fever pitch. Restored from Disney’s art sources and enhanced with a meticulous recreation of the strips’ original color, Call of the Wild also brings you more than 30 pages of chromatic supplementary features! You’ll enjoy rare behind-the-scenes art, vintage publicity material, and fascinating commentary by a prismatic pack of Disney scholars.NOTE: Mickey Mouse Color Sundays: Call of the Wild contains cartoon violence and historically dated content presented in context. Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Color Sundays Vol. 2 "Robin Hood Rides Again"He’s faster than a speeding arrow... more powerful than the Sheriff of Nottingham... able to leap high taxes in a single bound! He’s Mickey Mouse! He’s back in color ? and traveling back in time: battling evil medievals in our second book of Floyd Gottfredson’s Sunday classics. Donald Duck, Goofy, and mischievous Morty and Ferdie are invited along too... if they dare! Standout stories in this volume include “The Robin Hood Adventure,” in which Mickey joins the Merry Men: swordfighting, jousting, and risking his life to rob the rich! Then Mickey faces Gold Rush gunslingers as the “Sheriff of Nugget Gulch”? and outwits the ever- sneaky Mortimer Mouse in “Mickey’s Rival!” Restored from Studio art sources and enhanced with a meticulous recreation of the strips’ original color, Robin Hood Rides Again also includes more than 30 pages of swashbuckling extra features. You’ll enjoy coveted non-Mouse Disney comics by Gottfredson; rare behind-the-scenes art; and commentary by a Round Table of Mickey scholars. Full color. • Journal of Religion & Society
Journal of Religion & Society Volume 6 (2004) ISSN 1522-5658 David, Mickey Mouse, and the Evolution of an Icon1 Lowell K. Handy, American Theological Library Association Abstract The transformation of an entertaining roguish figure to an institutional icon is investigated with respect to the figures of Mickey Mouse and the biblical King David. Using the three-stage evolution proposed by R. Brockway, the figures of Mickey and David are shown to pass through an initial entertaining phase, a period of model behavior, and a stage as icon. The biblical context for these shifts is basically irretrievable so the extensive materials available for changes in the Mouse provide sufficient information on personnel and social forces to both illuminate our lack of understanding for changes in David while providing some comparative material for similar development. Introduction [1] One can perceive a progression in the development of the figure of David from the rather unsavory character one encounters in the Samuel narratives, through the religious, righteous king of Chronicles, to the messianic abstraction of the Jewish and Christian traditions.2 The movement is a shift from “trickster,” to “Bourgeoisie do-gooder,” to “corporate image” proposed for the evolution of Mickey Mouse by Robert Brockway.3 There are, in fact, several interesting parallels between the portrayals of Mickey Mouse and David, but simply a look at the context that produced the changes in each character may help to understand the visions of David in three surviving biblical textual traditions in light of the adaptability of the Mouse for which there is a great deal more contextual data to investigate.

In various inter- views Barks had referred to the “Landon correspondence course in cartooning” he’d taken when he was sixteen. Fascinated, I tried to find a copy of Landon’s course. After a couple of years of searching on eBay and other auction houses – where I was only able to find partial copies – I finally tracked down a com- plete copy from a New York rare book dealer. In the meantime, my research revealed that more than a few cartoonists from Barks’s generation had taken the Landon course.

  • Paperinik, Ou Comment Les Italiens Sont Parvenus À Mettre Des Pantalons À Donald Duck

The lyrics’ presence allows filmmakers to digress from sequential imagery through introduction of nonlinear visual elements. I will analyze these surrealist film elements through several post-modern philosophies to better understand how this animated audio-visual synthesis resides in the larger world of art theory and its relationship to the popular music video.
