Elder Abuse Guest Speaker, Vincent McCormack

We are privileged to have Vincent McCormack, Supervisor of Adult Protective Services at the Los Angeles County Van Nuys field office. He will discuss different kinds of abuse: physical, financial, mental, and neglect. We will learn how to detect the signs of elder abuse of family members, friends, or neighbors, and how to report it. Vincent will bring handouts that will be helpful in recognizing and dealing with this problem.

Congregation Shir Ami is largely a community of seniors with the challenges brought on by senior living in today’s society. We will be inviting experts in fields relevant to our community.

We are privileged to have Jerry Guon, who has represented Donated Life, the national organ donation organization and the American Red Cross, and who is, himself, a recipient of a liver transplant, speak about donation and transplantation.

Jerry will discuss the beliefs of different religions on this subject and what laws and regulations currently pertain to donations and transplants. Other issues include: Payment for organ donation How should priority of recipients be determined Should age of recipient be a factor Should recipient’s moral character be a factor
