According to JICA Office in Dushanbe, the presentation ceremony took place on October 3, 2017 at the JICA Headquarters Office in Tokyo, and the President of JICA, Mr. Shinichi Kitaoka presented the certificate of the Commendation and the tribute to the recipients. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) annually presents the JICA President Award and the JICA Recognition Award to commend preeminent achievements and long years of contributions to the socio-economic development in developing countries through JICA’s international cooperation activities. The JICA President Award is to honor projects, experts, consultants or volunteers for their outstanding achievements in various areas including human resource development, livelihood improvement, poverty reduction and infrastructure development in developing countries. The JICA Recognition Award is to honor individuals or organizations for their long-standing contribution to JICA’s activities in Japan and overseas. This year as its 13th round, JICA will award the JICA President Award to 9 projects and 3 individuals and the JICA Recognition Award to 23 individuals and 6 organizations. It should be highlighted that, in addition to JICA President Award, “the Project for Rehabilitation of Drinking Water Supply Systems in Panj District, Khatlon Region” in the Republic of Tajikistan", under which this water supply facility was constructed, received the 2016 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award as "an epoch-making project that contributes greatly to the development of civil engineering technology and society." JICA began its technical cooperation with Tajikistan in 1993 by inviting Tajik officials to gain knowledge and experience on governance and macroeconomics development. At the end of March 2016, the total number of participants to JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Programs, formerly called Training Programs, has exceeded 2000 people. JICA Tajikistan Office was established in 2006, and since then various Grant Aid and Technical Cooperation projects have been implemented more dynamically, aiming at improving living standard of Tajik people through cooperation in such sectors as agriculture and rural development, water supply, health, transport, energy, capacity building etc. JICA’s cumulative investment in all sectors amounted 82.06 million USD for Technical Cooperation and 256.55 million USD for Grant Assistance with 32 (on-going and implemented) projects. .
