The use of the name Blackmore, meaning 'Black Marsh' or 'Black Swamp' would seem to have been generally accepted by the end of the Middle Ages. Blackmore, which is one of the more attractive Essex villages, is in the centre of the Parish. To the South, on a moated site, is the church of St Laurence, which is all that remains of an Augustine Priory of Blackmore, founded in the 12th century. After the dissolution of the Priory in 1525, the chancel of its church was demolished, but the rest of the building was retained as the parish church. The 15th century timber bell tower is one of the finest in England. Adjoining the churchyard is Jericho Priory. The main block of this imposing building is red brick, three storeys high, with four bays and square angle turrets. As this house is on the same moated site as the church, and both were partly walled, especially in the west, it is reasonably thought that it may be on the site of an early, 16th century, house, either built after the dissolution of the Priory, or adopted from its buildings. Legend has it that the original house was a country retreat of Henry VIII and that it was the birthplace, in 1520, of his natural son, Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond.

    Issue I May 2009 Cricket Green Editor’s Introduction The replies to the Village Appraisal questionnaire made it very clear how much we value living here. However, it also highlighted the need for improved communications in the community. People didn't know what was available to them and felt that more could be done to bring the residents together. Our Parish Councilors are keen to support this initiative and this new newsletter will incorporate the previous Parish Council News. We are hoping to produce a comprehensive and inclusive newsletter covering all aspects of village life and in part our aim will be to continue the publicity which was formerly done by the Preservation Society. If you want to be involved, this will be a forum for you. We invite your letters, reminiscences, and features; please help us to keep it fresh with your own contributions, including those of your children. We hope also to have a regular diary of all the events in the parish and this will also be available on the Parish Council website where up to date information will be found. If you are a member of a group meeting in the village which is not currently listed in this newsletter then please contact the editors. We also invite sponsorship by advertising from local companies and tradespersons. If you feel you could support this initiative please let us know. Hopefully we will produce Newsletter Newsletter three or four issues in our first year. Full description `Pigeon Mound', mound, 200yds west of Old Hall site, c100ft in diameter, 12ft high. <1> In good condition in 1953, purpose unknown. <2> <3> 'On the basis of the Walker map, Pigeon Mount would seem to be a post-1598 feature of landscape gardening'. <4> <5> <6> A contour survey undertaken by ECC; FAG in April 1995 in a defined area of Thorndon Country Park included the site of the earthen mound known as Pigeon Mount. <7> Following the survey a programme of trial trenching was undertaken. A sub-surface structure had been identified on the summit of Pigeon Mount by a resistivity survey, carried out in 1994 by Peter Cott. Three trenches were investigated; all three contained the structural remains of an octagonal brick building, 6.5m from wall to wall. This is interpreted as being either an ornate dovecote or a garden feature, constructed in the early 17th century and subsequently renovated in the early 18th century and demolished sometime after 1763. <8> A resistivity survey undertaken in 1994 showed that there was probably a square structure in the centre on top of the mount, with no significant other features.

The report reviews Brentwood’s air quality monitoring from 2016 and has found no exceedances of the annual mean objective for Nitrogen Dioxide at relevant exposure. Air Quality in Brentwood Air pollution is associated with a number of adverse health impacts. It is recognised as a contributing factor in the onset of heart disease and cancer. Additionally, air pollution particularly affects the most vulnerable in society: children and older people, and those with heart and lung conditions. There is also often a strong correlation with equalities issues, because areas with poor air quality are also often the less affluent areas1,2. The annual health cost to society of the impacts of particulate matter alone in the UK is estimated to be around £16 billion3.

    01 Introduction WHAT IS THE INFRASTRUCTURE DELIVERY PLAN? 1.1 This Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) provides a schedule of infrastructure requirements to help support new development growth planned within Brentwood Borough Council’s Local Plan in the period up to 2033. 1.2 The IDP is intended to be a ‘live’ working document and as such a micro site has been developed which is uploaded with regular date-referenced significant updates.1 It is intended to publish the IDP annually as a hard copy linked to the Council’s Authority Monitoring Report – generally in December each year. 1.3 The IDP is intended to be a user-friendly publication, which allows the reader to identify and understand quickly the connection between land use planning and related infrastructure demands. 1.4 The broad approach to developing the IDP is set out below in Figure 1.1. Figure 1.1: IDP Development 1 www.brentwoodidp.org 1.5 As a practical document, the IDP enables the Council to: • gather a thorough understanding of existing infrastructure provision in the Borough; • plan and co-ordinate new infrastructure required to support new development growth; • provide an evidence base to support the deliverability of the new Local Plan, and • provide a user-friendly set of information which can be updated and reviewed as part of overall plan monitoring.
