Contributing Editor Offered insights on a draft of the manuscript of Obama and Kenya: Contested Histories and the Politics ​ of Belonging by Matthew Carotenuto, Associate Professor History and Coordinator of African Studies at ​ St. Lawrence University, and Katherine Luongo, Associate Professor of History at Northeastern University. The book examines President Obama’s complicated relationship with his Kenyan ancestry. It was published in 2016 by Ohio University Press. Provided consultative expertise, based on my knowledge of Kenyan history, contemporary music, politics and more.

Assisted with the editing of a draft of the manuscript of Behind the Kitchen Door by Saru Jayaraman, ​ ​ published in February 2013 by Cornell University Press. Her book blends the personal narratives of restaurant workers in , Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans an elsewhere with investigative journalism. Jayaraman appeared with Bill Moyers on PBS following the ​ ​ book’s publication, and on Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO. Behind the Kitchen Door peaked in the ​ ​ ​ ​ top 500 on .com: the foreword was written by Eric Schlosser, author of the best-selling book Fast ​ Food Nation. 2012 - 2015 ​

The Wall Street Journal Auto and general assignment reporter who covered Chrysler during the automaker’s historic bankruptcy, as well as other domestic and foreign automakers, including Honda and BMW. Later covered the resilience of a wide variety of Michigan residents during the Great Recession.

Part of a team of reporters who won a 2010 New York Press Club award for “Detroit in Decline,” a 2009 series focusing on the collapse of the U.S. auto industry into the government’s arms. A front-page feature

After starting as an intern, I was quickly promoted to Assistant Producer and then full-time Producer, working primarily for "Africa Journal,” a weekly newsmagazine that was for years one of the most widely watched TV shows in Sub-Saharan Africa. Produced TV news, TV features and text stories. My long-format stories aired on BBC, CNN, Sky and other international and domestic broadcasters. 1998 - 1999

Harvard College B.A. in Social Studies, an interdisciplinary humanities major, with honors. Took a break from school after my journalism career. Took a break from college after landing the job ast Reuters while in college, ultimately graduated in 2004.

MORE ABOUT ME

A 5,000-word piece I wrote on traveling to Kenya and Eritrea as a young man was published in A Leaky ​ Tent Is A Piece of Paradise, an anthology of young travel writers, in 2007. Co-founder of a memorial ​ scholarship at my alma mater that gave out tens of thousands of dollars over just under a decade to students who exhibited leadership, academic prowess and a commitment to giving back. Fortunate to get published on the topic of drug delivery to the brain in high school while doing research at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy over the course of two summers. Served as class president at my high school and was fortunate to be the keynote student speaker at my commencement. In my free time I enjoy volleyball, exercise, reading, cooking, traveling and meditation.
