This is a special initiative we are undertaking thanks to the generosity of Ann and Charles Eisemann, through their newly established Eisemann Edge Endowment Fund. The project will be a collaborative effort to create innovative arts and technology programs and exhibits, allowing the North Texas com- munity an opportunity to explore culture, technology and the Arts in a new and exciting way. We will launch the first pro- ject of what will be a multi-year interactive arts experience in March of 2020. More details and information will be released as soon as they are available. Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel continues to grow as a series, with over 64% of the seats fully subscribed this past season. But it also will do much more than that. It will open a door to a hidden world of physics, where scientists hope to find unimagined wonders that will make relativity and quantum mechanics seem like Tinker Toys.” —Ronald Kotulak, Chicago Tribune (San Francisco, CA)—Physicists at Fermilab, the world’s most powerful particle accelerator laboratory, are closing in on one of the universe’s best-kept secrets, the Holy Grail of physics: why everything has mass. With the Tevatron, an underground particle accelerator buried deep beneath the Illinois prairie, Fermilab scientists smash matter together, accelerating protons and antiprotons in a four-mile-long ring at nearly the speed of light, to find a particle—the Higgs boson—whose existence was theorized nearly 40 years ago by Scottish scientist Peter Higgs. The physicists searching for the Higgs boson are excited; they may be approaching the discovery of a lifetime, and there’s almost certainly a Nobel Prize for whoever finally finds it.

So I decided to make my own,” says Jason Burns of the modest beginnings of what has become one of the hottest companies specializing in building custom upright basses. While touring over the years, Burns developed and refined the product line, which has catapulted his company to the top of the industry. “I gathered input from players like Lee Rocker and Jimbo Wallace, they have been playing on the road and in studios long enough to have a really good idea of what needs to go into the design and crafting of professional quality instruments.” It’s not enough for your instrument to look and sound great, it has to hold up. "It's a tribute in a lot of ways," Rocker (nee Leon Drucker) tells Billboard. "It's a song I wrote over the last couple of months. I was thinking about my career with 40 years of Stray Cats and all of that and thinking about the upright bass, which is what started this thing. It takes me back to the opening line of the song -- which is "Took me 'round the world and I changed my name/found a little fortune, found a little fame/Doin' the dog house shuffle" -- which is right out of my story. Dog House is what they call the upright bass, so it's a tribute to the bass itself and a lot of the players that I came up listening to." Some of those players -- including Elvis Presley's Bill Black, Willie Dixon, Fred Maddox, the Tennessee Three's Marshall Grant, Carl Perkins' brother Clayton and Al Rex of Bill Haley & His Comets -- are featured in the "Dog House Shuffle" video, along with cartoon animations and studio footage of Rocker and his band recording the track.

When they raise their fiddles and play, audiences marvel again at the intricacy of the sound issuing forth. When the girls sing their vintage-style three-part harmony, audiences are blown away. Add the rhythm guitar of Joey McKenzie and the upright bass of Drew Phelps, and the Quebe Sisters band becomes a force of nature. Whether it’s a Western swing classic a la Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, a swing standard (Benny Goodman), vintage country shuffle (Ray Price) or Western anthem that would do Sons of the Pioneers proud, the band is phenomenal. The house comes down, too, when they launch into bluegrass or a traditional, Texas old-time fiddle breakdown. Reaction is the same wherever the Fort Worth-based group goes – and it’s been around – to concert halls, festivals, cowboy gatherings and rodeos across North America, as well as The Kennedy Center, the Grand Ole Opry and NYC’s Lincoln Center. Concert performances from Canada to California and Austin to Boston to Bangor, Maine, include shows with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Asleep at the Wheel, Merle Haggard, Marty Stuart, Riders in the Sky and The Reno Philharmonic.
