Serbska 2/15 Poland Heinkel HE 51 www.silverwings.pl [email protected] Kat. No 32-001 Heinkel HE 51 Heinkel He-51 was development of the earlier HE-49. It was produced in three main versions: fighter, ground-attack version and seaplane. The He-51 was a conventional biplane fighter, with all-metal construction and fabric covering. First prototype, the He-49a, flew in November 1932. With longer fuselage and better engine it was ordered into production as the Heinkel He-51 for Luftwaffe in May 1933. It was first used during Spanish Civil War in 1936. It was successful during operations against older biplane designs such as: Nieuport Ni-52, Brequet 19, Potez 54. This time of superiority was short lived, with the arrival of large numbers of modern aircraft from the Soviet Union, including Polikarpov I-15 and I-16. After that the He-51 was withdrawn from fighter duty and relegated to the ground attack role by both the Legion Condor and the Spanish Nationalists. While a failure as a fighter, the Heinkel proved successful as a ground attack aircraft, being used by the Luftwaffe in World War II. The HE-51 aircrafts were in use in front line service until 1938. • The Struggle for Control of American Military Aviation
THE STRUGGLE FOR CONTROL OF AMERICAN MILITARY AVIATION by PAUL HARRIS LARSON B.A., Auburn University Montgomery, 2000 M.A., Texas State University, 2002 AN ABSTRACT OF A DISSERTATION submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Department of History College of Arts and Sciences KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Manhattan, Kansas 2016 Abstract The United States Army activated the Aeronautical Division, United States Signal Corps, on August 1, 1907. The men of the Aeronautical Division faced hardships and challenges from the very beginning as they tried to build the nation’s first air force prior to World War I. The U.S. Army, the War Department, Congress, and even the American people, really did not know what aircraft could do beyond simple flight. American airmen tried to demonstrate what air power was capable of, but the response to their achievements never met their expectations. Using an abundance of primary and secondary sources on American air power, this dissertation demonstrates that airmen’s struggle for a separate service was not something that developed slowly over the course of decades. Instead, this dissertation shows that airmen wanted independence from the U.S. Army from the start. From their point of view, the U.S. Army, the War Department, and Congress never really appreciated or understood air power. As a result, airmen became more and more alienated with each passing year until they achieve want they wanted—independence. THE STRUGGLE FOR CONTROL OF AMERICAN MILITARY AVIATION by PAUL HARRIS LARSON B.A., Auburn University Montgomery, 2000 M.A., Texas State University, 2002 A DISSERTATION submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Department of History College of Arts and Sciences KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Manhattan, Kansas 2016 Approved by: Major Professor Dr.

  • DCS Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst Flight Manual DCS [Bf 109 K-4]
DCS Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst Flight Manual DCS [Bf 109 K-4] Dear User, Thank you for your purchase of DCS: Bf 109 K-4. DCS: Bf 109 K-4 is a simulation of a legendary German World War II fighter, and is the fifth installment in the Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) series of PC combat simulations. Like previous DCS titles, DCS: Bf 109 K-4 features a painstakingly reproduced model of the aircraft, including the external model and cockpit, as well as all of the mechanical systems and aerodynamic properties. Along the lines of our flagship P-51D Mustang title, DCS: Bf 109 K-4 places you behind the controls of a powerful, propeller-driven, piston engine combat aircraft. Designed long before “fly- by-wire” technology was available to assist the pilot in flight control or smart bombs and beyond visual range missiles were developed to engage targets with precision from afar, the Kurfürst is a personal and exhilarating challenge to master. Powerful and deadly, the aircraft nicknamed the "Kurfürst" provides an exhilarating combat experience to its drivers, and a worthy challenge to all fans of DCS P-51D Mustang. As operators of one of the largest collections of restored World War II aircraft, we at The Fighter Collection and the development team at Eagle Dynamics were fortunate to be able to take advantage of our intimate knowledge of WWII aviation to ensure the DCS model is one of the most accurate virtual reproductions of this aircraft ever made. Combined with volumes of outside research and documentation, the field trips to the TFC hangar and countless consultations and tests by TFC pilots were invaluable in the creation of this simulation.

  • Most Airplanes Have at Least Two Names—The Official One and the One Given by the Troops
Air Force Magazine September 1990 Most airplanes have at least two names—the official one and the one given by the troops. What They Really Called Them By Jeffrey P. Rhodes, Aeronautics Editor After at least four rounds of suggestions and reviews over eight years, the Rockwell B-1 bomber was officially nicknamed "Lancer" this spring. That may catch on as an everyday flight-line reference, or it may not. The airmen who fly and fix airplanes have a long history of deciding for themselves what they will call their machines. In the list that follows, by no means complete (either in terms of aircraft that have had unofficial nicknames or as a complete list for a given aircraft, some aircraft will be seen to have several "real" (flight-line) nicknames, some affectionate, others derogatory. In some cases, the disrespectful appelations are the work of rivals who fly some other airplane. In other instances, the tough- sounding name was awarded with fondness and used with considerable pride. Still others were given because the airplane was regarded as a "dog." Aircraft are listed by the date of first flight of the prototype (or specific model), except for such planes as the C-47, which moved over from the commercial world. The dates for those reflect when they joined the military. (Another exception: The SR-71 date is first takeoff of the SR-71--not the A- 12--from the Lockheed Skunk Works.)
