MINUTES OF WATER POLO COMMITTEE MEETING Held on Monday 21 October 2013 at East Sussex County Council Offices starting at 7.00 pm PRESENT: Mrs. C. Barber (President) in the chair, Mr. A. Item No. Action 12/2013 MINUTES of the Water Polo Meeting held on the 18 February 2013, which had been circulated, were approved and signed as a correct record. 13/2013 MATTERS ARISING FROM MINUTES: None not covered in Agenda. 14/2013 2013 Season (so far) Roger Edmondson gave a written report: 1. Honours: Congratulations to the following: Scott Orchard – appointed an International Referee Joel Abbott, Scott Martin and Jack Waller represented GB Men in last round of European Championship qualifiers in Slovakia. Ben Alcorn was the non-travelling reserve goalkeeper. Lara Partridge in Junior Squad. Fran Collings in Scotland Junior team and has been invited to train with the Scotland Ladies Squad. 2. Sussex KO Semi Finals: Crawley 10 Worthing 15 Hastings 11 Brighton 12 Final: Worthing v Brighton Saturday 16 November Crowborough 6.30pm Referees : Scott Orchard and Gregg Candy-Wallace. 3. National Inter Region 2013 1. SE U19 Boys - 1. 2.. Sussex 4. 2. SE U19 Girls - 1. . Kent 3. Sussex 4. Hampshire 5. Suffolk. 3. SE U16 Mixed - 10 November at Whitgift School. 4. SE U16 Girls - 15 December at Whitgift School 5. SE U14 Mixed - 15 December at Whitgift School 6. ASA 98 boys finished 4th out of 5 in Division 1 7. ASA U16 Girls finished 4th narrowly losing 9-10 to the North West. Retained their position in Division 1 4. 2013 Senior League. Following the excellent 2012 Season, the 2013 season has juddered along with only 5 teams (Brighton B and Crawley B folded). Marlins have great difficulty in raising a side having played only 2 of their away matches and none at home. Tim assured the meeting that Marlins would complete their fixtures. Worthing only started their fixtures in July and have had problems with fitting in their Sussex fixtures with their National League commitments. Following discussion, it was decided that all the 2014 Sussex Fixture dates would be completed and handed in to the Secretary at the end of the February 2014 Meeting. 5. Girls Water Polo. Ewan Partridge reported: This weekend (26/27 Oct) Crawley 99 Girls are competing in the National Age Group Competition in Manchester. There are 10 players (5 boys and 5 Girls (98-01)) in the RTC at . There is a lack of 2002 players for Millfield 2002.

15/2013 16 Tournament at Crawley This had taken place at Crawley on the 22nd June (cost £300) run outstandingly by Barry Hurst. 28 U16 players were present in 4 teams. It was agreed it was a great success. 16/2013 Budget runs from 1st April to 31st March each year and the Secretary provided information on income and expenditure. Sussex ASA supports water polo in the County – budget for 13/14 shows that Sussex ASA supports water polo by £830 per year. 1. Subscriptions for season 14 remain unchanged (£150 entry fee per team). 2. A Sussex U19 Team should be entered in 2014 Senior League. A coach is needed to manage the team. All Clubs to provide the names of eligble players by the February Meeting. 3. The O40 and O50 County teams should be self-financing. 4. SE Men’s League 1 Festival was held at Worthing during the weekend of 29/30th June. It is self-funding. Winners: East Invicta Runners Up: Worthing Relegated to League 2 :Brighton. Crawley were fined £10 by the SE for not fulfilling their last match against Worthing. 5. It was agreed that Sussex would enter the following tournaments: 1. November 3 98 SE Development Whitgift 2. November 10 U16 SE Region Mixed Whitgift 3. December 15 U16 SE Region Girls Whitgift 4. December 15 U14 SE Region Mixed Whitgift 5. March 8 U19 SE Region Girls Swanley 6. March 15 U19 SE Region Boys Basingstoke 7. Other teams - self funding 1. U15 Mixed – Hastings and Worthing entered Summer 2. Ladies – Team Sussex entered London Summer The Secretary will submit a budget for 2014-15 to Brian Deval (A new Treasurer is required for 14-15). It was agreed that Sussex would run U16 Development Tournaments at Crawley and Worthing in 2014. 17/2013 Referees This was discussed (Brian had updated his plan) in conjunction with budget and which tournaments were to be entered that required County Funding. . 1. Referee Course held earlier this month. 5 new referees: S. Grantham Crawley J. Gray Worthing Jill Alcorn Worthing K. Woodman Marlins L. Woodman Marlins T. Hamm Brighton. All passed their Theory examination and need to do a practical test. Secretary to contact Anthony Allen (referee examiner). Suggest Crawley U16 Youth tournament to be used. 2. FINA new water polo regulations 2013-17 have been issued. Sussex to have a meeting with all referees to discuss the new regulations – Scott Orchard to be invited to lead the discussion by the Secreary. 18/2013 RTC Discussion took place about setting up a RTC in Sussex in the East of the County to cater for Sussex and Kent players. 1. Crowborough and Crawley were possible pools to be used. 2. Crowborough would be cheaper and more convenient for Kent players. 3. Barry Hurst suggested that the new Director of Coaching at Crawley (Stephan Liesac) as a possible LEAD Coach but he needed to attend and pass a Level 2 Coaching Course. Sussex indicated that there was a COACHING Bursary to fund it. 4. At the moment, Ewan coaches the Girls at K2 on 10 Saturday afternoons per year. 5. To set up the RTC, we need: 1. Level 2 Coach 2. Facility for Fri evening/Sat or Sun 3. Ask Norman Leighton’s permission to run the RTC. 6. RTC should be the main item on the Agenda of the February Meeting. 7. Paul Holehouse (Kent Secretary) to be contacted about the proposed Coaching Course and the Kent interest in setting up the RTC in Crowborough. 8. It is self-financing – there is a need for a Treasurer to collect the money at the beginning of the project for a 10 week programme. 9. The Secretary to write to Ewan Partridge thanking him for his excellent efforts for Sussex Girls Water Polo. 18/2013 A.O.B. 1. Medals – Margaret Tuppen pointed out that different medals should be presented to the League Champions which are different to the KO Medals. Secretary to communicate. 2. Medals – it was proposed and passed that Sussex medals should be presented to the U16 players in the winning team. 3. Website – Brian requested more water polo information. 19/2013 D.O.N. Meeting Monday 3rd February 2014 20/2013 There being no further business the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the President at 8.35pm.
