Welcome to the Provisional BUCS Leagues Document for 2019-20 (V8 Released 16/12/19) Welcome to the provisional BUCS leagues document for 2019-20 (V8 released 16/12/19) This first worksheet is a guide to the shadings used throughout the document to denote promoted/relegated/reshuffled/new/withdrawn teams. Please note that in most cases, leagues of 6 teams or less will meet each opposition twice (home and away), whilst leagues of 7 - 10 teams will meet each opposition once (home or away). Exceptions to this include the Premier Tier of Men’s Rugby Union, and in all sports (except Cricket) where a Tier 1 league has 7 teams, in which case in all of these leagues teams will be scheduled to meet each opposition twice (home and away).” You may notice that a few key sports are missing (American Football, Equestrian & Indoor Cricket). This is because the format of these leagues are currently being reviewed or still being finalised. Therefore we will be releasing these provisional leagues at a later date. Thank you for your patience with this. Please direct all feedback and queries to your regional competition representative in the first instance. They will be collating and organising the feedback before sending it back to BUCS. Please discuss possible contradictions/actions with all parties involved before submitting the feedback back to your regional rep. All feedback will be discussed in the BUCS Office and although we will try to accommodate where possible/appropriate, please note that changes are not guaranteed. Please note that changes relating to late results or incorrect score adjustments from the 2018-19 season will NOT be accommodated, as all BUCS leagues have now been locked as final. Example cell Description BUCS 1 Team that has been promoted automatically BUCS 2 Team promoted by winning promotion playoff BUCS 3 Team promoted due to REG 5.3.4 BUCS 4 Team that lost Premier playoff and therefore either relegated from Premier Tier or remain in Tier 1 BUCS 5 Team that has been relegated automatically BUCS 6 Team relegated due to circumstances in tiers above BUCS 7 Team finished in an automatic relegation position, but due to numbers of teams relegated/promoted in above leagues, they will no longer be relegated BUCS 8* Team finished in an automatic promotion position, but due REG 5.3.1 team are ineligible for promotion BUCS 9* Team that has switched ranks within same institution (e.g. if BUCS 10 promoted to tier 5 and BUCS 9 relegated from tier 5 to tier 6, the teams automatically switch ranks) BUCS 10 Team shuffled across from another league in same tier (e.g. to even numbers, but keep geographically as close as possible) BUCS 11 New team entry for 2019-20, always placed into league within lowest tier. Except REG 5.3.4 BUCS 12 Team awaiting confirmation of entry from institution BUCS 13 Team withdrawn from competition Example cell Description Chester: Chester Institutions with stand alone playing • History of Badminton
Facts and Records History of Badminton In 1873, the Duke of Beaufort held a lawn party at his country house in the village of Badminton, Gloucestershire. A game of Poona was played on that day and became popular among British society’s elite. The new party sport became known as “the Badminton game”. In 1877, the Bath Badminton Club was formed and developed the first official set of rules. The Badminton Association was formed at a meeting in Southsea on 13th September 1893. It was the first National Association in the world and framed the rules for the Association and for the game. The popularity of the sport increased rapidly with 300 clubs being introduced by the 1920’s. Rising to 9,000 shortly after World War Π. The International Badminton Federation (IBF) was formed in 1934 with nine founding members: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, Holland, Canada, New Zealand and France and as a consequence the Badminton Association became the Badminton Association of England. From nine founding members, the IBF, now called the Badminton World Federation (BWF), has over 160 member countries. The future of Badminton looks bright. Badminton was officially granted Olympic status in the 1992 Barcelona Games. Indonesia was the dominant force in that first Olympic tournament, winning two golds, a silver and a bronze; the country’s first Olympic medals in its history. More than 1.1 billion people watched the 1992 Olympic Badminton competition on television. Eight years later, and more than a century after introducing Badminton to the world, Britain claimed their first medal in the Olympics when Simon Archer and Jo Goode achieved Mixed Doubles Bronze in Sydney.

www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN European propolis is highly active against trypanosomatids including Crithidia fasciculata Received: 22 February 2019 Abdullah Alotaibi1, Godwin U. Ebiloma2, Roderick Williams 3, Samya Alenezi1, Accepted: 25 July 2019 Anne-Marie Donachie2, Selome Guillaume3, John O. Igoli1,4, James Fearnley5, Published: xx xx xxxx Harry P. de Koning 2 & David G. Watson1 Extracts of 35 samples of European propolis were tested against wild type and resistant strains of the protozoal pathogens Trypanosoma brucei, Trypanosoma congolense and Leishmania mexicana. The extracts were also tested against Crithidia fasciculata a close relative of Crithidia mellifcae, a parasite of bees. Crithidia, Trypanosoma and Leishmania are all members of the order Kinetoplastida. High levels of activity were obtained for all the samples with the levels of activity varying across the sample set. The highest levels of activity were found against L. mexicana. The propolis samples were profled by using liquid chromatography with high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and principal components analysis (PCA) of the data obtained indicated there was a wide variation in the composition of the propolis samples. Orthogonal partial least squares (OPLS) associated a butyrate ester of pinobanksin with high activity against T. brucei whereas in the case of T. congolense high activity was associated with methyl ethers of chrysin and pinobanksin. In the case of C. fasciculata highest activity was associated with methyl ethers of galangin and pinobanksin. OPLS modelling of the activities against L. mexicana using the mass spectrometry produced a less successful model suggesting a wider range of active components. Propolis is a resinous substance collected by bees, generally from plant buds.
