AND THEN SOME! WORDS Phil Wain / PICTURES Stephen Davison The Isle of Man TT Races are the last of the great motorcycle tests in the When the TT lost its World Championship status, many thought it was world today and, at 100 years old they show no sign of slowing down. Instead the beginning of the end but, instead, it became a haven for real road race of creaking and rocking, the event is right back to the top of the motorcycle specialists who were keen to pit their wits against the Mountain Course, tree, continuing to maintain its status throughout the world and attracting the most challenging and demanding course in the world. Names like Grant, the fi nest road racers on the planet. Excitement, triumph, glory, exhilaration, Williams, Rutter, Hislop, Fogarty, McCallen, Jefferies and McGuinness came to and tragedy – the TT has it all and for two weeks in June the little Island in the forefront, but throughout it all one name stood out – Joey Dunlop. -

Issue # 168 January 2017
Issue # 168 January 2017 The The Bi-Monthly Journal of the Central Coast Classic Motorcycle Club Dean Faber looking happy with his recently freshened up Triton Club Membership is by nomination only and is open to those persons interested in the restoration use and preservation of old motorcycles. 2016 Revisited Erik’s Eddie Lawson Rep’ at the August Hub Run th 24 of January Freemans Waterhole Above; Two Meriden Bonnies around 20 years apart in age at February’s Hub Run Left; Ray at the first Saturday workshop in June Peter’s Suzuki Stinger 29th Jan’ President’s rePort Greetings and welcome to another year. With all the hot days recently it’s been a chore to do any work in the shed. Even the thought of donning all the riding gear takes second place to finding a cool spot to hang out and do nothing. The AGM held in November was well attended. Unfortunately little interest was shown by the members in regard to standing for a position on the committee. We did manage to fill most positions with the same old faces and one new one, Mark Richardson. Welcome aboard Mark. Unfortunately no one wanted to do the job of Secretary or Events Committee. Barry has offered to help out where he can but that doesn’t solve the problem that these positions need to be filled by members who have the time and interest to devote to the job. As mentioned at the November meeting, your committee has been looking into a possible new club web site. -
A M D G Beaumont Union Review Spring 2021
A M D G BEAUMONT UNION REVIEW SPRING 2021 ―Events, Dear Boy, Events‖ as Harold Macmillan perceptively said, will destroy the best laid hopes and plans. They also make us re-evaluate. The events of the last year have made us look anew at everything from relatives, and friends to food, travel and conviviality: all important to the Beaumont Union. My view is that where ever we are, we have never really been apart. It might have only been six of us at The War Memorial, our only permitted gathering, but as was shown by the numbers who were with us in spirit on Youtube: our friendship runs deep. When we start meeting up again we will pick up where we left off: if I can remember where that was ! We are often told that the initial reaction to the Great War was ―It will be over by Christmas‖. Well, we know it wasn‘t and the same goes for what we have been going through. There may be light at the end of this tunnel but the pandemic continues to take its toll on some of our planned events: The BOFS and the other ―OB Groupies‖ will for another year not be in Lourdes after Easter and The BUEF trip to Verdun has been cancelled with the uncertainty of the situation especially in France. I, for one, am inspired by the words spoken by Amanda Gorman at the President‘s Inauguration: When day comes we step out of the shade, aflame and unafraid The new dawn blooms as we free it For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it If only we’re brave enough to be it. -
2011 Event Report
2011 Event Report “The right crowd” was part of the slogan that was used to promote Brooklands. This weekend the ‘Right Crowd’ was at Mallory Park for the 6th Festival of 1000 Bikes to be held at this delightful 1.35 mile Leicestershire circuit. Over 22,000 Enthusiasts flocked thorough the gates for the three days of nostalgia and excitement. There were the sights, the sounds and the smells of the iconic machines of yesteryear combined with the spectacle of the stars of yesteryear strutting their stuff on the machines that made them famous and the unique opportunity to mingle freely with them in the ‘Race Paddock’ (Try that at any other prestigious 2 or 4 wheel event!) More than 1,200 enthusiasts had the opportunity to exercise their own machines which ranged from 25cc to 1,500 cc and from 1902 to 2011 in a slickly co-ordinated series of more than 50 track sessions over the two days with Sunday being reserved for ‘Race Machinery’ The weather was kind, the beer tent was excellent and the “Paddock Cafe’s” famous breakfasts were in great demand. Evening entertainment included ‘ The Classic Racer’ magazine ‘Stars on Stage’ hosted by Charlie Williams and a live band in the marquee on both Friday and Saturday but for many it was an opportunity to meet old friends, make new ones and generally chew the fat over a few mugs of Horlicks.... The autojumble was interesting and the 50 strong “Avenue of Clubs was very popular–with imaginative and ‘educational’ displays that welcomed the thousands of enthusiasts who thronged the stands So many highlights to remember, but Kenny Roberts “on the back wheel” or the “Ago versus Cooper” celebration of the 40th anniversary of their ‘Race of the Year’ battle here at Mallory has to stand out – together with the spectacle of the NMM Norton Rotaries in full cry and the extraordinary sights and sounds of the VMCC Sprint Section on the Kirby Straight on Sunday.
