YOGA ANYONE? y then-fiancé and I were living in Los Angeles and had plans to visit his extended family in San Francisco. We’d taken Mthis trip many, many times. It was a long drive for which I wore my standard travel gear – yoga pants, t-shirt, and my husband’s fleece jacket. This was a special trip, however, because not only was it Christmas Eve, but I would be meeting my future extended family for the first time on Christmas Day. So of course I packed all of my favorite clothes and we set out for the five-and-a-half-hour drive. Upon arriving in San Francisco, we stopped for gas and, while filling up, I hopped out to grab something out of the trunk. We pulled out of the gas station and hadn’t gone far when I realized I hadn’t shut the trunk properly and it had popped open. I jumped out, shut it, and then hopped right back into the car. We stopped for a leisurely dinner at a classic San Francisco favorite Original Joe’s, and then proceeded to my in-laws apartment at the top of Nob Hill. After a lengthy search for parking, we were finally there. It was beautiful that night. The Fairmont Hotel is in the neighbor- hood and was lit up for the holidays. There were lots of people out and about celebrating the season. My excitement was building. Then, we opened the trunk and discovered my suitcase was gone! There was no trace of it ever having been there. I was horrified as I realized that it was Christmas Eve and the stores were already closed. And there was no hope for the next day either. Back then, Macy’s wouldn’t have dreamed of opening on Christmas Day. Here I was about to meet my future fam- ily without so much as a toothbrush. I anxiously persevered and ultimately made due with my sister-in-law’s hand-me-downs for Christmas Day. Having a great story to tell helped to quell my nerves. It turns out that it didn’t matter though. We’re still going strong and will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in November!! EMAIL MARKETING • DIRECT MAIL LISTS
