BACKGROUND & AIM OF THE PROJECT During Public hearing of Narmada Malwa Gambhir Link project on 3rd June 2015 at Balwada, the cultivators of the area had demanded an irrigation scheme. In view of this NDVA, Madhya Pradesh has proposed the Balwada Micro scheme for irrigation. The main objective of Balwada Micro Irrigation Scheme is to provide irrigation facilities to the water-scare areas in right side Vindhya Range of Narmada basin where the level of irrigation is very much less as compare to national irrigation percentage. The Balwada micro Irrigation Scheme has been conceived to cater irrigation water to 5000 ha of CCA in Barwah tehsil of Khargone district, Nimar region. The need of drinking water will also be taken care of where ever required. Total 34 villages of Barwah tehsil, of Khargone district will be benefited by this scheme. Balwada micro irrigation scheme off at Break pressure Tank -1 (BPT-1) of Narmada Kshipra Simhastha Link Project which has already constructed to carry a discharge of 5.0 cumec. 2. PROJECT PROFILE Total water available in NKSL at BPT-1 is about 5 cumec of which 1.25 cumec of water will be supplied for providing irrigation in Balwada Micro Irrigation scheme. It is proposed to use 1.25 cumec of water from BPT-1 of NKSL and MS pipes rising mains feeding water to Delivery System. The irrigation water will be distributed in command area through MS, DI and HDPE pipe line system for a command of 5000 ha of culturable command area in 34 villages. This scheme is also proposes providing raw drinking water to above mentioned command area villages. In the present proposal, the main pipe canal and disnet system are completely designed as piped canal. 3. LOCATION The project area lies in Khargone District of M.P. The supply source is from Narmada Kshipra Simhastha Link (NKSL) Project i.e. supply point (BPT-1) lie at near Balwada in Khargone District of Nimar region. (Figure 1) RS Envirolink Technologies Pvt. LAND REQUIREMENT Permanent: • The entire micro irrigation system has been aligned in such a way, that it passes minimum through any forest area. • For construction of the project, 0.932 ha forest land is required. Clearance of forest is already accorded by the forest department. Temporary: • In private and Govt. land, the pipe shall be laid 1.00 m below average ground level hence no land for pipes shall be acquired permanently and temporary land acquisition will be done as per Bhumigat pipe line laying act. The temporary land requirement is 10 ha 5. RESERVOIR No Reservoir Study is required as 1.25 Cumec of water will be taken from BPT-1 Narmada Kshipra Simhastha Link Project & irrigation is through underground piped system only. 6. STUDY AREA The study area consists of two main components i.e. i) Water conductor system and ii) Command area Study area comprises of area within 2.5 km buffer on either side of pipeline (water conductor system) and command area. The study area lies in Barwah tehsil of Khargone district. 7. ENVIRONMENTAL BASELINE STATUS Environmental baseline status has been ascertained using secondary as well primary data. Secondary data has been presented for meteorology, geology, geomorphology, ground water, cropping pattern, socio-economic parameters etc. Primary data has been collected for air, soil, surface & ground water, noise, traffic and vegetation. Data has been presented in EIA report in detail. It has been observed that ground water levels are depleting. Analysis Results of surface as well as ground water samples are within permissible limits as per Inland surface water quality and drinking water standards. As per land use map, most of command area is agriculture which is 94.65%. Physio-graphically the project study is falling in Khargone district falls under Nimar Valley Agro-climatic Zone. As evident from the land use/ land cover map of the area, the project study area is mainly under agricultural crop fields and settlements. RS Envirolink Technologies Pvt. Ltd. 4 NVDA EIA/EMP study for Balwada Micro Irrigation Scheme Vegetation of the project study area is comprised of agricultural crop fields with small-scattered patches of trees in the form of plantations at certain places. However, these are far and few. In order to understand the general vegetation in the study area, inventory of plant species belonging to different groups found in the study area was prepared and community structure in the crop fields as well as scattered patches of trees was assessed through quadrat sampling. Data has been presented in EIA report. 8. SOCIO ECONOMIC PROFILE OF THE STUDY AREA The project area is spread in Nimar region of MP. All the project components of proposed project lie in Barwaha tehsil of Khargone district of Nimar region. 34 villages of command area in Barwaha tehsil of Khargone district will be benefited by this scheme by way of irrigation & drinking water (Refer Table 2 for list of villages). Table 2: List of Villages (Command Area) S.No. Villages S.No. Villages 1 Athwan 18 Jhigadi 2 Bagod 19 Kharkua 3 Balwada 20 Kourawad 4 Bamanpuri 21 Lal Pura 5 Barjhar 22 Manakpura 6 Bawi 23 Mongar Gaon 7 Bhikariya 24 Mukhtyara 8 Bhikpur 25 Padli Bujurg 9 Bilali 26 Pala Palasiya 10 Bodhikhar 27 Pandhaniya 11 Chandanpura 28 Pipaljhar 12 Dhankua 29 Ramthan 13 Daulatpura 30 Rupla 14 Gobrikheda 31 Selda 15 Hanumantya 32 Sabalpura 16 Jamnya 33 Surpala 17 Jhabbar 34 Temla Demographic profile, literacy, occupation pattern, per capita income, socio-economic profiling of the project benefitted villages on sample survey basis, brief description of villagers’ opinion/perception regarding the project, have been presented in EIA report in detail. The analysis shows a clear picture that the construction of this project will be able to bring improved quality of life paving a path of development for the present and future generation which in turn can improve their life and prevailing circumstances. This Project may open new avenues for giving an opportunity to the people for accessing their rights on health, education, livelihood and other empowerments. The increased yield due to assured irrigation will lead to integrated development of agriculture in the region. The implementation of the project would also solve the problem of the drinking water permanently. RS Envirolink Technologies Pvt. Ltd. 5 NVDA EIA/EMP study for Balwada Micro Irrigation Scheme 9. IMPACT ASSESSMENT Impacts on noise and air quality: In a water resources project, air and noise pollution occurs mainly during project construction phase. During operation phase, no major impacts are envisaged. Impacts on water resources: Water conductor system shall be crossing several streams. Improved availability of irrigation in the area shall lead to reduced extraction of ground water for irrigation and domestic uses thus reversing ground water decline in the region.
