Overview . 32. 1 Nacra history timeline with its USA roots (California) The Nacra 5 .5 was born as one-up cat . Nacra in the early 80’s 1968, Geoff Prindle decided to get into catamarans . It was developed the 5 .0 to also sell cats in the recreational market 1968, the same year that he founded Surfglas with his and this was quickly followed up with the 5 .7 . and 5 .8 . partner, Sterling Santley . He really got into the catamaran scene heavily and placed second at the USA nationals . 1985, Roy Seaman made all the original Nacra hull plugs and developed the 6 .0 to be the ultimate boat especially for the 1971, Prindle 16 goes into production - light, strong, Worrell 1000 Extreme race and won this race numerous times . and fast . The Prindle could cut smoothly through The first Nacra 6 .0’s had a self tacking jib and spinnaker . At the the water because of its fine bow entry and was end of the eighties the 5 .5 rig was changed into the 5 .5 sloop . not as susceptible to pitch poling as other similar designs . Two years straight, the boat won the “Most 1996, The formula 18 class was growing in Europe so Efficient Catamaran Trophy” award at the Pacific Nacra came out with the Inter 18 . The Inter 20 was only a Multihull Association’s World Speed Trials . matter of time and sometimes sold by the dozen . Engines (sails) were developed by Performance Sails . 1972, Nacra started out as an Alpha cat besides Prindle, Importers and Nacra dealers all over the world were the first boat was the Alpha 18 and then the Alpha 15, distributing by now Nacra catamarans being super which was a single handed boat, was to sail in the successful in racing and recreational sailing cats . One of a Kind regatta in Newport Beach . Within this time frame Tom Roland had made a The 21st millennium, judge for yourself where the history 18 foot cat that became the Nacra 18 square . of Nacra has led to up until now . We now have more than 20 different catamarans available and selling them 1975, Performance Cat Inc . came up with the Nacra 36 to strongly through the well established dealer network all over promote the North American Catamaran Racing Association the world . Whatever type of Nacra you like, we which is where the name Nacra came from . A 36 foot speed always will try to supply you the best products available . machine that did lot’s of promotion and is still going strong . An old saying of Nacra is: “Nacra!, always one step ahead” 3 fun race Like other Nacra catamarans, the design team have given sailors simplicity, quality and performance in one small catamaran . There’s nothing standard about this craft . Just look at the clean hull lines, note how the beams are recessed into the hulls, yielding greater rigidity to the platform . See the level of buoyancy in the hulls meaning you stay as close to “on top” of the water as possible . Note that Nacra build in the sure footed non-slip on the side of the hulls making trapezing even easier and safer . Nacra kick-up rudders are just the same delightful mechanism as the bigger boats, making launching and recovery truly “plain sailing” . The mainsail gives real power for a smaller catamaran and the Dacron jib will give years of life to this wonderful little catamaran . The jib is sheeted to the front beam allowing space on the trampoline . Sails are made by Performance, one of the worlds leading sail makers, so you know that they are prepared just for you . The 460 is a tough lightweight catamaran that will give the whole family years of fun, she is the Nacra “baby” and where thousands of families will start their sailing careers, whether that be just one member gliding across the waves or more using the trapeze to gain the full benefit of the hidden treasures of the Nacra 460 . The Nacra 460 is also available as Sports version which includes the sports jib spinnaker kit . 5 fun race The Nacra 500 is the ideal family craft for those who want simplicity and performance, the large buoyant hulls enables you to drive her across the waves in ease in most conditions . Large trampoline area means that you have real space and as it is tensioned it provides a real platform . Trampoline, like all other Nacra’s is of mesh polypropylene allowing the water to quickly drain through keeping sailors as dry as possible . The Performance Sails main is a modern material giving a good looking smart appearance and the jib is Dacron, giving long life strength and performance . The 500 provides high performance recreational sailing at an affordable price, local Club racing, where she has been called the “pocket rocket” by the catamaran fraternity for years . The Nacra 500 is simple, but great design means that she is just quicker than she should be !! fun race Big fast catamarans are often too complicated and take hours to prepare on the beach . Not the 570, she is simple, fast, graceful and has thrilled sailors for many years . The 570 is the largest skeg hulled catamaran made today, like all other Nacra’s, the 570 is built with polyester sandwich foam giving the hulls real stiffness and strength . She has real volume in front of the beams and so doesn’t suffer the potential catamaran problem of “nose diving” . The 570 will carry two crew comfortably and even three when cruising . The Dacron jib is sheeted to the front beams giving a large spacious trampoline area where the platform is firm and clear of all blocks and lines . The main is built strongly, providing a hard long wearing material that holds the sail shape providing a real power unit . Kick up rudders allowing for easy launching and recovery and are operated with real ease . Double trapeze is needed to hold the power of the 570 . 7 fun race The 580 is a big fast catamaran designed for the heavier pair, or comfortably three when cruising . The 580 is versatile, she can be sailed in a wide variety of conditions with ease and speed, real speed, gliding gracefully over the waves with sailors on double trapeze . The 580 is unique that she is the only catamaran in the Nacra program with swinging dagger boards, yielding all the advantages of sailing with dagger boards but being safe when cruising as the boards and the rudders will kick up when conditions demand . A unique Nacra feature!! Hulls are made of vinyl polyester sandwich foam and the Nacra 580 has the largest volume forward of the front beam than any comparable catamaran, designed so she can drive through waves up and downwind without the fear of capsize . Mast spreader controls hold the mast perfectly giving you the ultimate power, but also means that the eight batten mainsail can be tuned to reduce power when required . As with all other Nacra catamarans, the gear is Harken giving you assurance that it is made for life!! The 580 is fitted with the latest style booms allowing the mainsheet blocks to fit perfectly to give the sail shape you want and also the Harken traveller eases effortlessly giving you high pointing or deep reaching . A beautifully made, very strong catamaran that will give you years of pleasure . 9 fun race The sailingmarket has been waiting for this plastic catamaran . The Playcat is here!! Designed by Melvin & Morelli for beginners, sailing schools and holiday renting businesses, she is tough, strong and simple .Yet she sails like a proper catamaran, something unique in plastic boats . The Playcat is also perfect to bring with you on family holidays . The hulls are made of moulded Polyethylene, with extra thickness on the skegs to give long life on the beach . The Playcat is light and easily handled on a beach trolley . Beams are smoothly moulded into the hulls so that all sharp edges are removed . Single boomless mainsail made of long lasting monofilm gives control through the mainsheet and the traveller for all points of sailing . Simply raise the mainsail, hook on the main blocks and you are away! Sailing schools and holiday resorts with clients, still want a boat that sails like a catamaran, what is the point in having two hulls, if you don’t get that buzz, but they want freedom from worry, low repair bills, and clients returning day after day for another sail !! That’s what they will get with the Playcat . Just wash her down with fresh water every evening and she will be ready the next day again and again, ready to work for you, making her the best investment a sailingschool can have !! For the family that wants a boat like this, it offers sailing for a serious lower price than you would pay for “glass” hulls, the plastic hulls are there to do a job, and the Playcat does it very well, they are not better than “glass” they are just different! The Playcat can be seen in clubs and resorts all over the world . Just go out there and have fun .

  • Portsmouth Number List 2019
Portsmouth Number List 2019 The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is provided to enable clubs to allow boats of different classes to race against each other fairly. The RYA actively encourages clubs to adjust handicaps where classes are either under or over performing compared to the number being used. The Portsmouth Yardstick list combines the Portsmouth numbers with class configuration and the total number of races returned to the RYA in the annual return. This additional data has been provided to help clubs achieve the stated aims of the Portsmouth Yardstick system and make adjustments to Portsmouth Numbers where necessary. Clubs using the PN list should be aware that the list is based on the typical performance of each boat across a variety of clubs and locations. Experimental numbers are based on fewer returns and are to be used as a guide for clubs to allocate as a starting number before reviewing and adjusting where necessary. The list of experimental Portsmouth Numbers will be periodically reviewed by the RYA and is based on data received via PY Online. Users of the PY scheme are reminded that all Portsmouth Numbers published by the RYA should be regarded as a guide only. The RYA list is not definitive and clubs should adjust where necessary.
