The service to and from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport will start May 29 and operate through Sept. 11, according to the news release from the Fairbanks International Airport. The Saturday weekly flight will depart from Fairbanks at 9:45 p.m. and arrive at Minneapolis at 5:55 a.m. The cost for a roundtrip starts at $338. “One of our top objectives at FAI is to make air travel affordable and accessible both to our residents and visitors,” said Angie Spear, FAI airport manager. “Therefore, we are incredibly proud to announce FAI’s first low-cost air service on Sun Country Airlines.” www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/another-airline-joins-the-summer-schedule-at-fairbanks-international/article_f7b1f16a-5fa8-11eb-b3b6-074f4e6… 1/2 1/26/2021 Another airline joins the summer schedule at Fairbanks International | Local News | newsminer.com The flights will offer passengers amenities such as free streaming of in-flight entertainment and reclining seats, Sun Country Airlines CEO Jude Bricker said in the news release. “We have no doubt that FAI passengers will enjoy our Midwest hospitality,” she said. “We also look forward to connecting our community to the Golden Heart of Alaska, the vibrant city of Fairbanks.” Since the beginning of the pandemic, all airlines have reduced or canceled service in Fairbanks, but in recent months, some of them have been reevaluating their decisions. For example, Delta and Alaska Airlines started to add the flights back in the fall, and American Airlines announced after Christmas their first-ever service from Fairbanks in summer 2021. The trend signifies more confidence in post-pandemic tourism opportunities but also the draw to travel destinations such as Alaska, which allows for access to the outdoors and ample social distancing, said Deb Hickok, president and CEO of the destination marketing organization Explore Fairbanks. “The Fairbanks airport and our tourism and hospitality partners stand ready to welcome visitors for a safe and exceptional stay in Alaska this summer,” Spear said. • Bankruptcy Tilts Playing Field Frank Boroch, CFA 212 272-6335 [email protected]
Equity Research Airlines / Rated: Market Underweight September 15, 2005 Research Analyst(s): David Strine 212 272-7869 [email protected] Bankruptcy tilts playing field Frank Boroch, CFA 212 272-6335 [email protected] Key Points *** TWIN BANKRUPTCY FILINGS TILT PLAYING FIELD. NWAC and DAL filed for Chapter 11 protection yesterday, becoming the 20 and 21st airlines to do so since 2000. Now with 47% of industry capacity in bankruptcy, the playing field looks set to become even more lopsided pressuring non-bankrupt legacies to lower costs further and low cost carriers to reassess their shrinking CASM advantage. *** CAPACITY PULLBACK. Over the past 20 years, bankrupt carriers decreased capacity by 5-10% on avg in the year following their filing. If we assume DAL and NWAC shrink by 7.5% (the midpoint) in '06, our domestic industry ASM forecast goes from +2% y/y to flat, which could potentially be favorable for airline pricing (yields). *** NWAC AND DAL INTIMATE CAPACITY RESTRAINT. After their filing yesterday, NWAC's CEO indicated 4Q:05 capacity could decline 5-6% y/y, while Delta announced plans to accelerate its fleet simplification plan, removing four aircraft types by the end of 2006. *** BIGGEST BENEFICIARIES LIKELY TO BE LOW COST CARRIERS. NWAC and DAL account for roughly 26% of domestic capacity, which, if trimmed by 7.5% equates to a 2% pt reduction in industry capacity. We believe LCC-heavy routes are likely to see a disproportionate benefit from potential reductions at DAL and NWAC, with AAI, AWA, and JBLU in particular having an easier path for growth.

  • Growing Number of Low-Fare Airlines Offering Frequent Flyer Programs
Airline Industry Analysis - Press Release Contact: Jay Sorensen For inquiries: 414-961-1939 Growing Number of Low-Fare Airlines Offering Frequent Flyer Programs Comparison of twelve U.S based low-cost carriers indicates the largest five provide frequent flyer programs to their passengers. March 15, 2004, Shorewood, WI. The IdeaWorks Company has compared the leading low-fare airlines in the United States on the basis of frequent flyer program benefits. Twelve airlines were included in the survey: AirTran Airways, Allegiant Air, ATA Airlines, Frontier Airlines, jetBlue Airways, Pan Am, Southeast Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, TransMeridian Airlines and USA3000 Airlines. These airlines are among those recognized by the USDOT as low-fare carriers due to operating cost advantages enjoyed over network carriers such as American Airlines and Northwest Airlines. Recently launched low-fare brands operated by network carriers, such as Song by Delta Air Lines and Ted by United Airlines, were not included in the survey completed by IdeaWorks. Five low-cost carriers, representing the largest airlines of the group in terms of available passenger seats, were found to offer traditional frequent flyer programs: AirTran Airways, ATA Airlines, Frontier Airlines, jetBlue and Southwest Airlines. These programs allow passengers to accrue benefits from flight activity in the form of miles, points or credits; which may be redeemed for free airline travel. Southwest has the longest tenure among the group with the launch of a frequent flyer program in 1987. The number of low-fare carriers offering frequent flyer programs grew to five airlines by 2002. All of these programs offered the feature of automated flight tracking by November, 2003.
