In addition, the country holds proven oil reserves of 3.7 billion barrels and ranked in the top 20 of the world’s oil producers. In view of the fuel demand and the goal to achieve energy security for the country’s growth in its domestic refinery industry, Pertamina, a state-owned integrated energy supply company has unveiled its Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) to boost total refinery capacity to about 2.3 MMbbl/d by 2025 and has signed several agreements to partner with public-private partnerships. Recognising the opportunity that Indonesia’s energy market presents, the Government is committed on its 35,000 MW energy plan, with efforts in improving the ease of licensing by providing incentives and adjustments on feed- in-tariff. These are part of the government’s initiatives to increase the deployment of renewable energy in the country. Under the new electricity procurement business plan (or RUPTL) 2018-2027, renewables are targeted to account for 23 percent of the country’s energy mix by 2027, up from current 12 percent, while coal 54.4 percent, gas 22.2 percent, and fuel oil 0.4 percent. Total transmission line is projected to reach 63,855 km, while substations around 151,424 MVA, and distribution network 526,390 km.
