Distribution patterns of several insects associated with dead wood indicate that they are weak dispersers (Økland 1994; Nilsson & Baranowski 1997; Ranius 2000; Siitonen & Saaristo 2000), but few studies have directly assessed the dispersal ability of these species (but see Ranius & Hedin 2001). This thesis is based on investigations in which key features of the dispersal biology of wood-living insects were studied and related to spatial distribution patterns of these species observed in the field. Insect movement by flight Insect movements by flight can be divided into two types (vegetative and migratory) with distinct behavioural characteristics (Dingle 1996; Woiwod et al. 2001). Vegetative movements are essentially explorations for certain resources (e.g. food, shelter, mates, oviposition sites etc.), and are interrupted as soon as the targeted resources are encountered (Dingle 1996; Woiwod 2001). -

The data were obtained based on a few methods of collecting of moths, mainly with use of artificial light and rearing of adults from decaying wood and bracket fungi inhabited by larvae. Nearly a dozen of species were recorded from particular regions of Poland for the first time. The study also revealed the new aspects of biology and ecology of a few species. KEY WORDS: faunistics, biological diversity, Microlepidoptera, clothes moths, fungus moths, bracket fungi, dead wood. Introduction Tineidae (Lepidoptera: Tineidae) constitutes a moth family abundantly represented in the world, distinguishable from among other taxa with original biology and habitat preferences (ROBINSON 2009). Its caterpillars – depending on a given subfamily – are mycetophages, lichenophages, keratophages, or saproxylophages, yet they more rarely feed on living plant parts. The majority of species inhabit old deciduous forests, where a high species diversity of arboreal fungi and rich ornitofauna are maintained. Forest areas that are economically intensively exploited are usually characterised with a low diversity of Tineidae, as the removal of dying and 92 X. DOBRZAŃSKI, T. Polypores host species rich insect assemblages, but relatively few polypore species have been studied in detail. We investigated insect assemblages associated with the fruit bodies of Daedalea quercina, a specialist species on oak in southern Sweden. Fruit bodies (n = 228) were collected from 25 nature reserves and woodland key habitats, and were taken into the laboratory to collect emerging insects. A total of 245 insect individuals were re- corded, belonging to at least 45 species. The numerically dominant fungivores were the tineid moths Montescardia tessulatella (n = 38 individuals) and Nemapogon fungivorel- lus (n = 10) and the coleopteran Ennearthron cornutum (Ciidae) (n = 44). Altogether 40 individuals of hymenopteran parasitoids were recorded, belonging to Braconidae (Exo- thecinae, Microgastrinae and Rogadinae, altogether 6 spp.), Ichneumonidae (Banchinae, Cryptinae and Orthocentrinae, altogether 4 spp.), Torymidae (1 sp.), Perilampidae (1 sp.) and Scelionidae (1 sp.). Most of the remaining insect species are not specifically associ- ated with fruit bodies, but occupy many types of decaying material. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract – Six species of Microlepidoptera are recorded from Hungary for the fi rst time: Agna- thosia mendicella ([Denis et Schiff ermüller], 1775) (Tineidae), Agonopterix cluniana Huemer et Lvovsky, 2000 (Depressariidae), Aplota nigricans (Zeller, 1852) (Oecophoridae), Aristaea pavoniella (Zeller, 1847) (Gracillariidae), Coleophora supinella Ortner, 1949 (Coleophoridae), Phyllonorycter scabiosella (Douglas, 1853) (Gracillariidae). With 6 fi gures. Key words – Hungary, Microlepidoptera, new records INTRODUCTION In 2013, I spent 92 nights with fi eld collecting Lepidoptera in Hungary, and sorted and identifi ed another 1290 individual light trap catches. During the ex- amination of this substantial amount of moth material six species were found to be new for the fauna of Hungary. Collecting moths by use of artifi cial light is duly considered as the most widespread collecting method of our times. Th e species discussed below were all caught at artifi cial light. Th e late László Gozmány (1921–2006), microlepidop- terist and chief curator of the Lepidoptera collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum has authored most of the Microlepidoptera volumes of the se- ries Magyarország Állatvilága (Fauna Hungariae). Several species are mentioned in brackets in these works, indicating that although no data were recorded from the country at the time of publication, they had been detected in the neighbour- ing countries. Four of the six species mentioned here as new for our fauna can be found in his works. -

According to the trophic level hypothesis, habitat fragmentation affects parasitoids more severely than their herbivorous hosts. Parasitoids also may be correlated with plant species richness, because plants host a variety of phytophagous insects acting as hosts for parasitoids, or plants provide food or act as shelter for parasitoids. In this study, the effects of the forest fragment properties; area, isolation, percentage of residential area surrounding focal fragments and plant richness on parasitic wasps and their interactions were examined. These fragmentation effects were examined in 10 urban native bush remnants in the Wellington and Hutt Valley region of the lower North Island, New Zealand. Fragmentation effects on species abundance, richness and diversity and on community assemblages were examined for the wasp families Ichneumonidae, Pompilidae and Proctotrupidae. Correlations between beta diversity of the plant community and the parasitoid community were analysed and the study investigated whether individual parasitoid occurrences can be predicted by the range of their host‟s host plants. -

INTRODUCTION The family Tineidae is represented in Poland by more than 50 species in 26 genera. Adults are small to medium-sized moths, usually with cryptic wing colouration. They rest with the wings raised ‘tent-like’ over the body and run rather than fly when alarmed. -

Agnathosia mendicella (Lepidoptera: Tineidae), nieuw voor de Belgische fauna Jan Soors & Tymo S. T. Muus Samenvatting. Door de eerste auteur werd op 23.vii.2013 één ex. Agnathosia mendicella (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) gefotografeerd te Chiny (prov. Luxemburg). Dit is de eerste melding voor de Belgische fauna van deze lokale en zeldzame soort. Informatie over de verspreiding en biologie wordt gegeven. Abstract. Agnathosia mendicella (Lepidoptera: Tineidae), new to the Belgian fauna The first author photographed a single specimen of Agnathosia mendicella (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) on 23 July 2013 at Chiny (Belgium, province of Luxembourg). This is the first record for the Belgian fauna of this local and rare species. Details on its distribution and biology are presented. Résumé. Van de 38 soorten in België zijn er onlangs twee soorten nieuw gemeld voor de België: Infurcitinea ignicomella (Heydenreich, 1851) en Nemapogon wolffiella (Karsholt & Nielsen, 1976).
