Welcome to St. Maria Goretti on this Sixth Sunday of our Easter season, and Memorial Day weekend! We continue to rejoice in the Resurrection of the Lord! And we look forward with great anticipation to the “unofficial” start of summer this weekend, and all the activities today and tomorrow! Let’s enjoy it all! We do welcome all of our guests and visitors who join us for Mass this weekend. It’s good to be together around the Altar of the Lord. Next Saturday morning, June 1st, at a special Mass at 11 AM at our Cathedral in Lafayette, Bishop Doherty will ordain two men as priests, and one as a transitional deacon. Deacon Will Summerlin from St. Maria Goretti, the only son of Brad and Susan Summerlin, becomes the third priest that this Parish community has given back to our Diocese. Fr. Josh Bennett was the first, ordained in 2011. And Fr. Clayton Thompson was the second, ordained in 2013. Deacon Will Summerlin is being ordained a priest with his classmate, Deacon Sean Aaron, who also has a significant connection to St. Maria Goretti, as he is our part-time associate pastor, Fr. Derek Aaron’s, older brother. It’s going to be a very great day next Saturday! I hope that as many of us as possible will be able to go to ordinations next weekend. It is a big day for our Diocese and for our Parish family. While the third priest from our Parish, Father Will Summerlin will be the first priest of our Diocese who graduated from St. Maria Goretti Catholic School. He will also be the first Temple Knight of the Holy Eucharist from St. Maria Goretti to be ordained a priest. We certainly look forward to and fully expect that he will not be the last from either category. Many parishes have never had a young man ordained from their ranks. We are blessed! It will be a special weekend for all of us. “Father” Will Summerlin will celebrate his First Mass next Sunday at our 10 AM Mass. We look forward to that also! We welcome this weekend our 2019 Guatemalan Mission Team! I can’t wait to hear the stories and see more of the pictures from the trip. Thanks to all who prayed for this effort and donated for materials and medicine to make it happen. We continue to pray for the parish at Santa Apolonia and for the Church in Guatemala. Next up? The 2020 International Mission Trip will be to the Amazon jungle in Peru, to work with Fr. Juan Linare’s community there. Could God be calling you to be on the Team going to Peru next summer? Now is the time to start praying and discern! On Thursday, June 27th, at 2:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Carmel, our Diocese is inviting all of us to come and hear the results of the Partner’s Edge survey concerning the future of our Diocese. For the last several months, The Partner’s Edge research group has been employed by our Diocese and has been putting this information together and projecting the needs of the Church in our Diocese, including here at St. Maria Goretti. The data that will be shared that day at that gathering will be used to develop the pastoral plan that will guide the Church’s effort in northcentral Indiana for the next ten years. ALL are invited and encouraged to attend this special meeting, to hear results of their findings, and to give input that will have important ramifications for all of us as Catholics in this Diocese. Please mark your calendars now for this upcoming gathering. The meeting will last no more than two hours. Similar meetings are being held in each of the deaneries of our Diocese that week in June. There’s only one Mass tomorrow, May 27th, Memorial Day, and that is at 9:00 AM. We will use this summer holiday schedule also for the Fourth of July and Labor Day. The 9:00 AM Mass will take place in the main sanctuary. Come and join us before your Memorial Day festivities! This Wednesday, May 29th, is Fr. Mike’s Birthday! Please keep Father in your prayers. Have a Happy Birthday, Fr. Mike! Have a great week! Let us keep one another in our prayers! In Christ, Fr. Kevin Happiness is never stopping to think if you are. Welcome! For more than 23 years now, we have been building the Kingdom of God, not with a few people, but with everyone! Please accept my warmest welcome, and I pray you will come to know St. Maria Goretti as we all do—our Spiritual Home and Loving Community. We are glad you are here and look forward to meeting you! God Bless you. —Father Kevin WELCOME: Jason & Sara Henry, Carolyn Geis, Logan Gillie, Drew & Lisa Linder May 26, 2019 Sixth Sunday of Easter St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church · Westfield, IN | 3 PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS DEACON SUMMERLIN’S ORDINATION & FIRST MASS Please join our SMG community in celebrating the Ordination of Deacon William Summerlin, Saturday, June 1, 11 am, at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Lafayette.
