MOTHER TERESA’S SUCCESSOR On March 13, 1997, stepped down as head of the Missionaries of Charity, the community she had founded. She was succeeded by Sr. Nirmala Joshi. Born in India and raised as a Hin- du, Sr. Nirmala attended a boarding school run by Christian mission- aries.
