LGA NEWS Aspire, Learn, Achieve LGA NEWS Aspire, Learn, Achieve 5 April - Edition 14 Message from the Principal In this final newsletter of the spring term you will see that there has been much to celebrate! It is lovely to see Lord Grey learners achieving success in such a wide range of activities - they really live up to our Lord Grey Can! ethos and we are proud of them all. Students are now starting a well deserved two week break and for our Year 11 and Year 13 students this is a really important time as we approach the examination season. It is 2019 essential that time is spent revising during the holiday and students should be completing revision every day. Mr Killen and other members of staff have given out lots of tips and advice about how to revise but if you need further information please look at the section on 5 April 2019 revision under the students tab of the Lord Grey Academy website. Last Day of Term I am delighted to have presented two more Gold Star Principal awards this week bringing 23 April 2019 the total to three this year. Students from across planet. #Lordgreycan! Milton Keynes put their skills and ingenuity to the test. The brief for the teams: to attend to a hazardous spill, manoeuvre their models to the site going under a bridge, lower and hook on a magnet to the barrel, lift it vertically up and back (without touching the bridge) and return the barrel back to the start. Many congratulations to our winning team: James, Ubayedul, Izzy and Daniel. The prizes included a personal invitation to visit the Aston Martin Factory and a cheque for £200 which will go towards a desktop 3D printer for the academy. A fantastic achievement and we are all very proud. #lordgreycan! Karate Competition in Tipton, West Midlands Many congratulations to Lakeasha, Turing 01 who won silver in CONTINUOUS and gold in POINTS FIGHTING. An amazing achievement, Lakeasha, you may be small but you are mighty! We are very proud. 2 Colossus News A great action shot of Owen playing for the Buckinghamshire Darts Team against a tough opponent from Hertfordshire. The final score was 8-6 to Buckinghamshire. Owen said; “The experience was amazing, the support was great and I played really well.” Owen is so pleased to be given the opportunity and his next game will be against Leicestershire. International Go Kart Racing Thomas, C07 has a vast collection of Red Noses Kyle will be racing and training over in Italy during that he has been buying over the years! This is the Easter break. What a fantastic experience, such a great way to contribute to a worthy cause! good luck Kyle! Well done Thomas! Keep up the charitable work! An Exciting Opportunity, An Expedition to Borneo Want to find out more? It is very exciting to be giving our Year 9, Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 students the opportunity to travel to Borneo with Camps International during the summer of 2020. Students will have the chance to work on a range of sustainable and meaningful community and conservation projects before being surrounded by marine life whilst completing their PADI Open Water Dive course. Parents and interested students are invited to attend a Presentation Evening to find out more. This will be taking place on Wednesday 8 May at 6:30pm in the Hall. Sporting Results Year 9 (girls) football team beat Ousedale 6-0 and are now the league winners. Year 7 netball team took part in the MK Tournament and won 5 out of 6 games. Well done girls you played amazing. On the following day our Year 7s beat Stantonbury 10-0, a great victory and a remarkable achievement! The U14s netball team won the league. Our Basketball team beat Hazeley Academy 32-15. 3 Principal Star Awards News from Turing As the end of spring term greets us, we look back and celebrate the success of Turing students over the last fourteen weeks.
