Pranayama 4th week

Simhasana

Simha = lion, =posture Simhasana= lions pose.

The Practice

The sound resembles of the sound of a roaring lion. Its is probably the only pose which requires a strong sound.

Simhasana releases tensions in the ears, nose, throat and eyes, releases emotional stress, frustration and anger. It releases tension in the chest, jaw, neck and face.

It helps to clear the voice and is useful for shy and introvert people. It encourages empowerment. Helps against bad breath and you might have a good laugh! How nice to act a bit silly and out of the box…

How to do Simhasana? - Sit in (Thunderbolt pose) - Open your as wide as comfortable. Place your palms on the floor between the knees, fingers point towards the body, arms straight. Weight of the body is mostly on to the wrists. - Arch the back - Bring your head comfortably back - Close the eyes for a moment - Open the eyes inhale deeply through the nose. Gaze towards the 3de eye center (Sambhavi ). - Open your mouth, draw the tongue towards the chin (stick your tongue out as far as you can towards the chin)and exhale completely with an “Haaaah” sound, coming from the throat - Close the mouth after exhalation and inhale . - Coming back to a wide Vajrasana

Repeat 5 times 3 rounds

Variations:

- If gazing at 3d eye center makes you feel dizzy, look at the tip of your nose Or practice Sambhavi mudra only for a few seconds and slowly increase the time - If you have weak wrists, stay in Vajrasana, having your hands on your knees - If you have any knee injury, sit cross legged or in a chair - Do not overdo it: you want to make a clear, slow and steady sound You can do the lions breath also in Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, , Purvottanasana,
