Student Welfare A new website for parents on children's mental health problems launched on the 27th March 2019. Funded by Health Education England, HappyMaps is designed to help parents find useful resources on behaviour and mental health for their children - from babies to young adults. We hope this will be really useful for parents whose children don't meet the specialist referral thresholds or are perhaps on the waiting list. There is good general information (national) and also local infor- mation on counselling, charities, local CAMHS and parenting groups for the SouthWest. The website is www.happymaps.co.uk Uffculmeschool.net P A G E 5 P A G E 6 Uffculmeschool.net P A G E 7 Student Achievements Congratulations to Jack Emmett (8ORCHARD) who recently represented England at the International Tetrathlon Championships at Moreton Morrell, held over the May half term. Jack had to shoot a pistol, run 1500m, swim for 3 minutes and ride a challenging cross -country course. He was up against a field of 66 other 12 to 15 year old boys. The England team came 2nd and Jack was placed 9th individually. Well done Jack! Well done to Ciaran Handforth (9BURT) and Matty Slater (9GAYTON) who completed a Tall Ships Youth Trust ‘Round the Island’ yacht race around the Isle of Wight during the May half term. They sailed in a group of iconic ocean- going Volvo Challenger Round the World Yachts. After completing training they crewed the winning yacht ‘Challenger 2’ on the final day’s racing. This was Ciaran’s second voyage with the Trust and as a result of his progress he has been asked to become a Watch leader in the future. Well done! Well done to the students who repre- sented Uffculme School in the South West Schools Languages Competition, held in March at Pilton Community College. All students had to prepare a presentation on a chosen topic and speak in front of all the students and staff in attendance with no notes. This included Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 students from 12 other schools across Devon. Impressively, they came away with two awards; Tom Amor won First Place and Indiana Alden received a runners-up trophy. Both winners also received a goody bag. Well done to all who took part. .
