DEACON BLUE “30 Years and counting” Formados en 1985 (su primer concierto, de teloneros de The Waterboys) y con su nombre cogido de una canción de Steely Dan, Deacon Blue se convirtieron en la segunda mitad de los 80 en una de las bandas escocesas más conocidas. Para ellos fue una época de hits y éxitos varios. En su disco de debut, "Raintown" (1987), donde estaba la canción "Dignity", uno de sus himnos internacionales más identificables, vendió más de un millón de copias y llegó al número 14 en las listas británicas, donde se mantuvo durante año y medio. Su segundo álbum, "When The World Knows Your Name" (1989) fue número 1 en el Reino Unido durante dos semanas y generó cinco sencillos que fueron al Top 30 de UK (y al Top 10 irlandés). Con el inicio de la década de los 90 no bajaron el ritmo. Su tercer LP, "Fellow Hoodlums" (1991), sumó a las buenas críticas su posición en el número 2 de los charts británicos, mientras que alcanzaron el # 4 con el más experimental "Whatever You Say, Say Nothing" (1993), donde ladearon sus melodías pop, hasta entonces inspiradas más por el soul y el jazz, hacia un territorio de rock más alternativo. Intermitentes apariciones en festivales a lo largo de esa década culminaron en 2012 con la gira de su 25º aniversario y un sexto álbum, "The Hipsters", producido por Paul Savage (King Creosote, Malcom Middleton, Mogwai), quien también estuvo a los mandos de "A New House" (2014), un título que les supuso regresar al Top 20 británico. Imagery has been one of its key elements, whether through graphic design, album art design, posters, videos and applications for digital devices. Throughout the more than hundred years of existence, music and images have shared a common space, in an ever-changing and evolving relationship. The main goal of the paper is to present how album cover design has expanded its boundaries far beyond its initial rol in the music industry, to trespass now into the textile, decoration and popular culture industries. We also aim to prove the evolution of the álbum cover and its reinterpreattion as objects of popular culture. Therefore, the paper is divided in three acts. We begin explaining the origin, evolution and significance of the discographic design from the outset of the industry. In the following act, we explain the death of the album cover due to the crisis experienced by the industry in the nineties. The final act studies the surprising comeback of the format, yet in another context, possessed with a much more symbolic function. This resurrection is part of the vinyl revival, pushed by elite consumers who are now looking for something else in music, apart from the music itself. As a result, we will witness how record covers have migrated from their original function and are now part of the realm of popular culture.
