Tenuta Parco dei Monaci (Monks Park) is an ancient estate on the Murgia plateau, where the only lands that can be plowed are small terraces on naked limestone. For here, in the 18th century, the Basilian Monks had held their own vineyards. Today, thanks to a modern cellar built in 2007 directly on the estate, we produce all our wines from on-site, hand-harvested grapes. Production is strictly limited to ensure the highest quality. With patience and time, we produce small lots of superb wines. Every bottle hides colours and perfumes almost forgotten. 5 LA FORNACE Table: 4 Winery Profile Contact Details Pod. Laura's Winery is located in San Gimignano, in the heart of Tuscan countryside. This historic borgo can trace its history back many centuries in a part of Italy where time has passed but has not changed the charme and tradition of this small shire. We can host up to 25 guest at a time in a lovely, little apartments set in the middle of this working farm. For our guest we host tastings in a warm and friendly family setting. This is a working farm where we encourage to learn about and partecipate in as many aspects as possible of the growth, harvest production of both wines and olive oil. Fabio's winery, la Fornace, is located in Montalcino.La Fornace is a small family run estate whose origins are mingled with peasant farming history. La Fornace is situated in the heart of Montalcino hill, the estate altitude is 400 m above sea-level. At the beginning of 20th century Montalcino countryside was cultivated with vineyards and olive groves, and already the parents of my grandparents worked in La Fornace as sharecroppers. Since 1964 my grandparents purchased this small estate of 2,5 hectares. Now the extent of the estate is almost 8 hectares. To the beginning, as the greatest part of small estates, the production was based on the table wine to sell loose. In 1998 my parents have left to me the management of the estate, but all the family help me in this work, so the wine production, from the farming of the vines and careful selection by hand of the grapes to the vinification, the ageing and refining, through to the selling of the wine is carried out by my and my family. The vocation for cultivating the vines has long-lived tradition that has never been interrupted. 6 TULIO MARCELLI Table: 5 Winery Profile Contact Details Arezzo Annual Production (Bottles): 35.000 52100 Designation of Origen: Tuscany T: +390575361722 Vines: Yes Nº Hectares: 12 [email protected] Exports to: Australia: (1000). APULIAN SALENTO ITBR001 • COUNTRYSIDE • AC • WIFI • POOL • 8 GUESTS APULIA Apulia is known as a land of extraordinary colours and wonderful variety; an undulating plateau of rich, red earth, with dark green pine-forested hillsides and light green olive groves. Rows of vineyards, blindingly white labyrinths of historic town centres that glisten in the sun. Milky white medieval centres with their tangled, cobble streets and alleyways. Baroque churches of grey and natural hews. Villa walls dusted in pink, all against a backdrop of deep, navy blue Mediterranean Sea and sky-blue sky. Apulia - or Puglia - is a region in southeastern Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the southeast, and the Strait of Otranto and Gulf of Taranto in the south. Apulia is divided into six provinces: Bari, Barletta- Andria, Brindisi, Foggia, Lecce and Taranto. Its southern portion known as Salento, a peninsula, forms a high heel on the "boot" of Italy. The Greeks colonised one of the richest in Italy for archaeological findings, Apulia in the 8th century BC, but when they got there the Japigi already occupied Apulia. The two tribes of Japigi people, Dauni and Messapi may have been the originators of the traditional Apulian dwelling known as Trulli. Today Apulia is becoming increasingly popular as travellers discover the area's varied charms: baroque towns, whitewashed trullo houses, olive groves and orchards, blue sea and beaches, plenty of sunshine and excellent cuisine. Apulia consists of rolling plains and gentle uplands, sources of grain and the nation's largest volumes of wine and olive oil.

  • SWE PIEDMONT Vs TUSCANY BACKGROUNDER
SWE PIEDMONT vs TUSCANY BACKGROUNDER ITALY Italy is a spirited, thriving, ancient enigma that unveils, yet hides, many faces. Invading Phoenicians, Greeks, Cathaginians, as well as native Etruscans and Romans left their imprints as did the Saracens, Visigoths, Normans, Austrian and Germans who succeeded them. As one of the world's top industrial nations, Italy offers a unique marriage of past and present, tradition blended with modern technology -- as exemplified by the Banfi winery and vineyard estate in Montalcino. Italy is 760 miles long and approximately 100 miles wide (150 at its widest point), an area of 116,303 square miles -- the combined area of Georgia and Florida. It is subdivided into 20 regions, and inhabited by more than 60 million people. Italy's climate is temperate, as it is surrounded on three sides by the sea, and protected from icy northern winds by the majestic sweep of alpine ranges. Winters are fairly mild, and summers are pleasant and enjoyable. NORTHWESTERN ITALY The northwest sector of Italy includes the greater part of the arc of the Alps and Apennines, from which the land slopes toward the Po River. The area is divided into five regions: Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna. Like the topography, soil and climate, the types of wine produced in these areas vary considerably from one region to another. This part of Italy is extremely prosperous, since it includes the so-called industrial triangle, made up of the cities of Milan, Turin and Genoa, as well as the rich agricultural lands of the Po River and its tributaries.

  • In Association With
In association with... Welcome to the 2019 Real Wine Fair! The Real Wine Fair is an independent festival of natural growers and winemakers, comprising those who work organically and/or biodynamically and with few or zero interventions in the winery. That said, real wine is relative rather than an absolute or precise term and embodies a certain spirit of endeavour in the vineyard and the winery. We understand that each grower has a highly specific approach; we should celebrate those differences. Real wines tend to be made in small quantities by artisan or independent producers who work without chemicals (which means no artificial fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides) in low yielding vineyards and then vinify without artificial yeasts or enzymes, or recourse to acidification or other adjustments. Many are made with only tiny amounts of added sulphur and some with none at all. ‘Nowt taken out and nowt put in’, as the saying goes. The motivation is to rediscover the true flavour of wine by capturing the sense of place (terroir) and the very nature of the vintage. These wines are individual, hand-crafted, thrilling and unpredictable. They remind us that wine can be a living thing rather than a denatured product and that less intervention means more real flavour. This booklet contains details of hundreds of wines from many countries around the world presented by growers and winemakers who have stories to tell. We hope you enjoy these wines as much as we do. And if you want to buy a bottle or several, or order something you have tasted at the fair there is a pop-up shop by the entrance of the main hall! And wine is only part of the Fair.
