It has been a while since our paths last crossed with Slough having progressed through the leagues to the heights of the Conference South where they currently sit in a comfortable position in the league table, whilst we are looking to the possibility of perhaps taking a step up in the footballing world this season if we can continue with a run of good results in the remaining weeks of the season. In the other semi-final last week Reading Under 23’s eventually overcame Maidenhead United via the penalty route to gain their place in the final and tonight’s winners will join them in the final at a venue to be announced on the 6th May. We come into this game following a very disappointing performance and result at Hertford Town last Saturday – but at least we took a point from the game so it could have been worse! Having taken a very early lead through a Charlie Samuel free kick we them proceeded to miss some good chances and then conceded dubious penalty in the second half. All seemed to be Ok result-wise when Marcus Mealing scored with a superb free kick in the dying minutes but a 95th minute volley evened the scores once again and so it finished. Slough meanwhile were winning away at table-toppers Woking to gain an excellent 3 points and so come into this game in excellent form. Many thanks for coming this evening and now for my usual closing plea to get behind the lads and support at all times – it really does make a difference and will do throughout the season! FROM THE DUGOUT Today I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all concerned with, my second team in Non-League, Slough Town. I’m hoping all concerned have an enjoyable evening before drowning their sorrows in the bar with the aid of some of Rebellion Brewery’s finest. We come into the game off the back of a tough 2-2 away draw at Hertford Town on Saturday. Whilst not trying to gloss over, what was, a below par performance from us, I feel as though all things considered a point was not a bad outcome for our efforts. We just never quite clicked, and I think we are all keen to get back out there and get back to our usual performance levels. Over the last few weeks we’ve managed to keep 4 clean sheets in our last 5 games, and we will need that defensive steel if we are to progress. We know that tonight we will probably need our best performance of the season, to have a chance of progressing, and there will be no margin for error. Clearly Slough, plying their trade two divisions above us, will start as favourites but we will relish the opportunity to test ourselves against players of this level. There are some top-drawer players amongst the opposition ranks tonight, but we believe that we are capable of producing another night like we did against MK Dons, and shocking everyone. As always, the support and encouragement from the Marlow faithful will be essential, and I know we can rely on you for that. Hopefully, at the end of the night we will have pulled off another shock and will be celebrating a victory. However, the very least we should expect is a performance you can all be proud of.
