Art Directors Guild to Induct Three Legendary Production Designers Into Its Hall of Fame at 18th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards February 8, 2014 LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11 — Three legendary Production Designers – Robert Clatworthy, Harper Goff and J. Michael Riva – will be inducted into the Art Directors Guild (ADG) Hall of Fame at the Guild’s 18th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards ceremony to be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 8, 2014, as announced today by ADG Council Chairman John Shaffner and Awards Producers Raf Lydon and Dave Blass. In making the announcement Shaffner said, “Clatworthy, Goff and Riva join a distinguished group of ADG Hall of Famers, whose collective work parallels the best of motion picture and television production design. They are most worthy and welcomed additions.” Nominations for the 18th Annual ADG Excellence in Production Design Awards will be announced on January 9, 2014. On awards night, February 8, the ADG will present winners in ten competitive categories for theatrical films, television productions, commercials and music videos. Recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be Production Designer and Art Director Rick Carter, as previously announced. The Excellence in Production Design Awards are open only to productions, when made within the U.S., by producers signatory to the IATSE agreement. Foreign entries are acceptable without restrictions. ROBERT CLATWORTHY (1911 – 1992) Robert Clatworthy (William Robert Clatworthy) was an Oscar®-winning American Production Designer who worked at Paramount starting in 1938, and at Universal until 1964. In the 1960’s Clatworthy became involved with some of Hollywood’s best directors, including Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kramer. -

Art Directors Guild Announces Nominations for 2010 Film, Tv, Commercial and Music Video Awards; Ceremony to Take Place February 5
ART DIRECTORS GUILD ANNOUNCES NOMINATIONS FOR 2010 FILM, TV, COMMERCIAL AND MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS; CEREMONY TO TAKE PLACE FEBRUARY 5 LOS ANGELES, January 5 -- The Art Directors Guild (ADG) today announced nominations in nine categories of Production Design for theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials and music videos competing in the ADG’s 15th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards for 2010. The nominations were announced by ADG Council President Tom Walsh and Awards co-producers Dawn Snyder and Tom Wilkins. Deadline for final voting, which is done online, is February 3. The black-tie ceremony announcing winners will take place Saturday, February 5, 2010 from the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills with Paula Poundstone serving as host for the second consecutive year. Theme of this year's awards ceremony is "Designs on Film" as a tribute to Cathy Whitlock's new HarperCollins book that traces 100 years of Hollywood Art Direction. Walsh will introduce the event. A Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Emmy Award® winning Production Designer Patricia Norris with director David Lynch set to present to her. In addition, the ADG will induct the following legendary Production Designers from the past into its Hall of Fame: Alexander Golitizen, Albert Heschong and Eugène Lourié. This year's Art Directors Guild Cinematic Imagery Award will be presented to Syd Dutton and Bill Taylor, long-time visual effects artists from the legendary company, Illusion Arts. Robert Stromberg, Oscar® winner for “Avatar” will be making the Cinematic Imagery Awards presentation. Filmmaker Cindy Peters' will present a special short video about the many diverse tasks performed by Art Department craftpersons featuring interviews with seasoned and aspiring members of ADG. -

January 7, 1982: * Presidential counselor Edwin Meese III reads a statement that reverses President Reagan's pre-election stand against the registration of 18-year-old males for a possible future military draft. * The Winter 1982 Consumer Electronics Show begins in Las Vegas, Nevada. While a year earlier the RCA VideoDisc system had been one of the most prominent introductions, at the 1982 show the VHD VideoDisc holds the spotlight with a large display space sporting the slogan "There's More to See on VHD." Other notable video-related introductions include the Technicolor CVC mini-cassette VCR system, the first tubeless consumer video camera, and the first Pioneer LaserDisc player with CX noise reduction. SETUP: Lincoln Jefferson is a Marine veteran who has served two combat tours in Iraq. Now stateside, he works as a custodian in a prestigious California high school- a job he secured only to ensure enrollment in the school to his 14-year old son KJ, following his divorce. One night, Lincoln and his son are stopped by police and an altercation leads to the fatal shooting of Lincoln’s unarmed son. Lincoln, hopeful the system will provide a trial, is dismayed to learn the officer responsible for pulling the trigger will go uncharged and will return to active duty without an indictment. Disillusioned by the fact he was denied a fair trial for the death of his only son, Lincoln desperately takes the matter into his own hands in a series of events he hopes will finally lead to justice for his son.
