The 300 km high-speed link between Tours and Bordeaux encompasses 500 standard and non-standard engineering structures, including 24 viaducts and six covered trenches. The rail line crosses three regions, six departments, and 113 communes as well as 14 "Natura 2000" sites that provide habitats to 220 protected wildlife and plant species. At peak activity in summer 2013, the project employed more than 8,500 people.
