Ruhoff Introduction A treatise of the generic names of the family Tingidae from a global standpoint embodies problems similar to those frequently encountered in corresponding studies in other animal groups. The more im- portant criteria, including such basic desiderata as fixation of type species, synonyms, priority, and dates of technical publications implicate questions concomitant with recent trends toward the clarification and stabilization of zoological nomenclature. Zoogeography, predicated and authenticated on the generic level by the distribution of genera and species, is portrayed here by means of tables, charts, and maps of the tingifauna of the world. This visual pattern of distribution helps one to form a more vivid concept of the family and its hierarchic levels of subfamilies and genera. To a limited extent the data indicate distributional concentrations and probable centers of evolution and dispersal paths of genera. The phylogenetic relationship of genera is not discussed. These figures, collated with similar categories in Lethierry and Severin (1896), show that there has been an increase of many genera and hundreds of species of Tingidae during the past three- quarters of a century. -

TINGIDAE of NEW GUINEA (Hemiptera)
Pacific Insects 2 (3) : 339-380 October 10, 1960 TINGIDAE OF NEW GUINEA (Hemiptera) By Carl J. Drake SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, WASHINGTON, D. C. This is a preliminary account of the Family Tingidae in New Guinea and nearby is lands. The new records herein are based upon the following collections : Bernice P. Bi shop Museum, specimens netted by Dr. J. Linsley Gressitt and associates in the present field survey of the insects of the islands of South Pacific Ocean1; American Museum of Natural History (New York); Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (Leiden); and Drake Collection (USNM). Specimens also have been received from J. J. H. SzenMvany, Port Moresby, and other entomologists in New Guinea and nearby islands. The records in the literature are also included. From these various sources, a sizeable representation of the tingifauna of New Guinea has been available for initial study. The records are of particular value because they contribute immensely to the poorly-known fauna of this large island lying in a zoological realm of such unusual chorological and scientific interest. The genera and their compo nents provide biotic data relative to Systematics, affinities, and dispersal of lace-bugs need ed for comparative, faunistic studies with those of the other large islands of the Eastern Hemisphere, such as Madagascar, Taiwan, Ceylon, and Luzon. To some extent, the main lands of Australia, India, and Africa also enter into the New Guinean faunistic picture. In comprehensive study of the morphology and higher classification of tingids, Drake and Davis (1960) : (1) Erected the Superfamily Miroidea Hahn to hold the families Tin gidae Laporte and Miridae Hahn; (2) Divided the family Tingidae into the subfamilies Tinginae Laporte, Cantacaderinae Stal, and Vianaidinae Kormilev; (3) Separated the Cantacaderinae into the tribes Cantacaderini and Phatnomini; and (4) Suppressed the Sub family Agrammatinae Douglas and Scott (= Serenthiinae Stal) as a synonym of the Sub family Tinginae. -

Allred-' Introduction This report is another in the continuing series of pubhcations concerned with the resuhs of ecological observations of fauna at the United States Atomic Energy Commission Nevada Test Site. These reports are concerned with investigations being conducted by the Department of Zoology and Entomology of Brigham Young Univer- sity in cooperation with the United States Atomic Energy Commis- sion (Allred, et al.. 1963). Most of the earlier reports refer to studies of vertebrate organisms and ground-inhabiting invertebrates. Some studies have been directed to parasitic arthropods. For a recent listing of these publications refer to Allred, et al. (1966). During the last several years emphasis has been given to collecting arthropods from known species of plants. -

This list was composed according to data from Heteroptera collection of Earth (National, op. ed.) Museum of Bosnia- Herzegovina in Sarajevo, the Study Collection of Heteroptera in Natural History Museum in Belgrade and the literature data. Keywords: check-list, Heteroptera, Bosnia and Herzegovina. UVOD Bosna i Hercegovina odlikuje se velikim diverzitetom staništa, što uslovljava veoma bogat i raznovrstan biljni i životinjski svet. Zlatno doba entomofaunističkih istraživanja, posebno Heteroptera, bilo je krajem 19. i u prvoj polovini 20. veka, kada su radili veliki Viktor Apfelbek i njegov saradnik Adolf Wineguth. Popis vrsta koji je pripremio Apfelbeck (1891) odnosi se na primerke iz zbirke Heteroptera u Zemaljskom muzeju Bosne i Hercegovine. U zbirci se nalaze i primerci koji nisu sa teritorije Bosne i Hercegovine, već iz okolnih Balkanskih zemalja., tako da njegov spisak ne daje vernu sliku zastupljenih vrsta, zatim promenjena je sistematika, i mnoge vrste su sada sinonimi. Svojim radom Apfelbeck je zaista dao veliki doprinos inventarizaciji Heteroptera Bosne i Hercegovine. Osim Apfelbeka i Winneguta bilo je još mnogih drugih istraživača kako entomologa tako i amatera, koji su doprineli današnjem saznanju o sastavu faune Heteroptera Bosne i Hercegovine (Protić, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1998, 2001, 2004). -
Key to Genera of Tingidae in Florida
Insect Classification Spring 2003 Amanda Bisson, Sarah Clark, Matt Lehnert, and Rick Stein Key to TINGIDAE of Florida Lace Bugs Tingidae is a rather large family in the order Heteroptera containing approximately 250 genera and 2000 species worldwide. All are phytophagous (feeding on plants) and are host specific. In fact, despite the detailed key provided here, one of the most important pieces of information necessary for tingid identification is the name of the host plant. Thirty-nine species have been reported in Florida; however, only seven of those are commonly encountered. The most common species that occur in Florida include the azalea lace bug (Stephanitis pyrioides), the hawthorn lace bug (Corythucha cydoniae), the lantana lace bug (Teleonemia scrupulosa) and the sycamore lace bug (Corythucha ciliata). Other important species include the avocado lace bug (Pseudacysta perseae), the fringetree lace bug (Leptoypha mutica), and the oak lace bug (Corythucha floridana). Physical identification of tingids is done primarily through examination of the head, pronotum and hemelytra. Adult lace bugs get their name from the lace-like appearance of their dorsum. This is created by a reticulate network of ridges on the pronotum and hemelytra that divides the area into a series of cells of variable size and shape. Many tingids also bear a strongly developed bucculae. These are ventral flanges on either side of the head that border the rostrum. Other common characteristics of tingids include two-segmented tarsi and the absence of ocelli. Their antennae are four-segmented, with segments I and II short and thick and segment III usually much longer and more slender. -

Johnson USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station, Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry, Volcano, HI USA [email protected] Abstract The lantana lace bug, Teleonemia scrupulosa Stål (Hemiptera: Tingidae), was introduced to Hawaii for biological control of lantana, Lantana camara L. (Verbenaceae), in 1902 and again in 1954. Among 43 cases of non-target native plants used as hosts by weed biological control agents in the US and Caribbean in the past century, all appear predictable with the exception of this lace bug. In Hawaii, T. scrupulosa is known to develop on one variety of naio, Myoporum sandwicense (A. DC.) A. Gray (Myoporaceae), a very distant relative recently placed in the same order as lantana, Lamiales. Biological control efforts using T. scrupulosa proliferated around the world following its first use in Hawaii. A few additional instances of non-target host use by this lace bug suggest that its host range may be disjunct but broad within Lamiales, extending to sesame, Sesamum orientale L. (Pedaliaceae) and teak, Tectona grandis L. f. (Lamiaceae). The possibility of genetic shifts in host specificity among Hawaiian populations of T. scrupulosa was investigated in retrospective greenhouse tests. Ovipositional host specificity did not vary among populations, but was consistently disjunct, suggesting a genetic pre-adaptation for selecting a specific subspecies of M. sandwicense as a host. However, adaptation for development on M. sandwicense also appears to have occurred in the population collected from this plant. Additional studies are needed to determine the basis for host specificity in this insect and whether new protocols for host range evaluation may improve our powers to predict such non-target interactions. -

Plerochila australis (Distant, 1904) has been reported as the species responsible for damage to olive trees; however, the diversity of olive lace bug species in the region has lacked attention. Adult olive lace bugs were collected incidentally from wild and cultivated olive trees in the Western Cape Province, and identified as P. australis and Neoplerochila paliatseasi (Rodrigues, 1981). -

Imada Hawaii Biological Survey Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum Honolulu, Hawai‘i 96817, USA Final Report prepared for the U.S. Navy Contribution No. 2021-003 to the Hawaii Biological Survey EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Bishop Museum was contracted by the U.S. Navy to conduct surveys of terrestrial arthropods in Hālona Valley, Naval Magazine Lualualei Annex, in order to assess the status of populations of three groups of insects, including species at risk in those groups: picture-winged Drosophila (Diptera; flies), Hylaeus spp. (Hymenoptera; bees), and Rhyncogonus welchii (Coleoptera; weevils). The first complete survey of Lualualei for terrestrial arthropods was made by Bishop Museum in 1997. Since then, the Bishop Museum has conducted surveys in Hālona Valley in 2015, 2016–2017, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. The current survey was conducted from August 2020 through November 2020, comprising a total of 12 trips; using yellow water pan traps, pitfall traps, hand collecting, aerial net collecting, observations, vegetation beating, and a Malaise trap. The area chosen for study was a Sapindus oahuensis grove on a southeastern slope of mid-Hālona Valley. The area had potential for all three groups of arthropods to be present, especially the Rhyncogonus weevil, which has previously been found in association with Sapindus trees. Trapped and collected insects were taken back to the Bishop Museum for sorting, identification, data entry, and storage and preservation. The results of the surveys proved negative for any of the target groups.
