Popis Heteroptera Bosne I Hercegovine UZIZAŽ Vol. 1. Broj stranica: 33-68 Sarajevo 2005. POPIS HETEROPTERA BOSNE I HERCEGOVINE Ljiljana Protić Prirodnjački muzej, 11000 Beograd, P.O.Box 401, Srbija i Crna Gora ABSTRACT Protić, Lj.: The list of Heteroptera of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prilozi Fauni Bosne i Hercegovine, 1: 33-68. This list includes 705 species of Heteroptera recorded in Bosnia- Herzegovina. Last list, made by V. Apfelbek, included 526 species. This list was composed according to data from Heteroptera collection of Earth (National, op. ed.) Museum of Bosnia- Herzegovina in Sarajevo, the Study Collection of Heteroptera in Natural History Museum in Belgrade and the literature data. Keywords: check-list, Heteroptera, Bosnia and Herzegovina. • TINGIDAE of NEW GUINEA (Hemiptera)
Pacific Insects 2 (3) : 339-380 October 10, 1960 TINGIDAE OF NEW GUINEA (Hemiptera) By Carl J. Drake SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, WASHINGTON, D. C. This is a preliminary account of the Family Tingidae in New Guinea and nearby is lands. The new records herein are based upon the following collections : Bernice P. Bi shop Museum, specimens netted by Dr. J. Linsley Gressitt and associates in the present field survey of the insects of the islands of South Pacific Ocean1; American Museum of Natural History (New York); Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (Leiden); and Drake Collection (USNM). Specimens also have been received from J. J. H. SzenMvany, Port Moresby, and other entomologists in New Guinea and nearby islands. The records in the literature are also included. From these various sources, a sizeable representation of the tingifauna of New Guinea has been available for initial study. The records are of particular value because they contribute immensely to the poorly-known fauna of this large island lying in a zoological realm of such unusual chorological and scientific interest. The genera and their compo nents provide biotic data relative to Systematics, affinities, and dispersal of lace-bugs need ed for comparative, faunistic studies with those of the other large islands of the Eastern Hemisphere, such as Madagascar, Taiwan, Ceylon, and Luzon. To some extent, the main lands of Australia, India, and Africa also enter into the New Guinean faunistic picture. In comprehensive study of the morphology and higher classification of tingids, Drake and Davis (1960) : (1) Erected the Superfamily Miroidea Hahn to hold the families Tin gidae Laporte and Miridae Hahn; (2) Divided the family Tingidae into the subfamilies Tinginae Laporte, Cantacaderinae Stal, and Vianaidinae Kormilev; (3) Separated the Cantacaderinae into the tribes Cantacaderini and Phatnomini; and (4) Suppressed the Sub family Agrammatinae Douglas and Scott (= Serenthiinae Stal) as a synonym of the Sub family Tinginae.

  • ECOLOGICAL FACTORS AFFECTING the ESTABLISHMENT of the BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGENT Gargaphia Decoris DRAKE (HEMIPTERA: TINGIDAE)

The thesis may not be reproduced elsewhere without the permission of the Author. ECOLOGICAL FACTORS AFFECTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGENT Gargaphia decoris DRAKE (HEMIPTERA: TINGIDAE) A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Science at Massey University, Manawatu, New Zealand Cecilia María Falla 2017 ABSTRACT The Brazilian lace bug (Gargaphia decoris Drake (Hemiptera:Tingidae)) was released in New Zealand in 2010 for the biological control of the invasive weed woolly nightshade (Solanum mauritianum Scopoli (Solanaceae)). Currently there is scarce information about the potential effect of ecological factors on the establishment of this biological control agent. This study investigated: 1) the effect of maternal care and aggregation on nymphal survival and development; 2) the effect of temperature, photoperiod and humidity on G. decoris performance; and 3) the effect of light intensity on S. mauritianum and G. decoris performance. Maternal care and aggregation are characteristic behaviours of G. decoris. These behaviours have an adaptive significance for the offspring and are key determinants for the survival of the species under natural conditions. Maternal care is reported to increase the survival and development of offspring under field conditions, and higher aggregations to increase the survival of the offspring. However, in this study, maternal care negatively affected the survival and development of the offspring, and higher aggregations had no significant impact on offspring survival.

A nymph of Thaumamannia Drake & Davis, 1960, a rare vianaidine genus known only from adults, is described by the first time. The specimens were collected in the soil and walls of caves located in the state of Pará, Brazil. This is the first record of Vianaidinae for Brazil. The T. vanderdrifti fifth instar is compared with the same stadium ofAnommatocoris coleopteratus (Kormilev, 1955), the only other vianaidine nymph described so far, and patterns between them and within the family are also discussed. KEYWORDS. Brazil, immatures, Neotropical, Thaumamannia. RESUMO. E-mail: [email protected] One of the most enigmatic lace bug genera, Recaredus, was described by Distant (1909) from West Bengal in India. In its description, the author suggested (p. 361) that “this genus apart from the structure of the head has a considerable resemblance to Acalypta Westw., a Palaearctic genus; in the Indian enumeration it may be placed after Phatnoma and probably requires a divisional separation.” Monte (1947), in the first checklist of the Tingidae genera of the world, placed this genus within the subfamily Tinginae. Subsequently, Drake (1950), based on Distant’s original description and comments, transferred it from the Tinginae to the subfamily Cantacaderinae; however, he did not provide any explanation for this classification. This placement was then maintained by Drake and Ruhoff (1960). Finally, the genus was transferred from the subfamily Cantacaderinae back to the subfamily Tinginae, and was placed within the tribe Tingini (Drake and Ruhoff 1965), but again without any comments or explanations.

Optimizing Management Guidelines for the Non-Native Azalea Lace Bug on Rhododendron Species in Western Washington Ryan R. Garrison A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science University of Washington 2020 Committee: Patrick Tobin Thomas M. Hinckley Soo-Hyung Kim Helena Puche Program Authorized to Offer Degree: Environmental and Forest Sciences © Copyright 2020 Ryan R. Garrison University of Washington Abstract Optimizing Management Guidelines for the Non-Native Azalea Lace Bug on Rhododendron Species in Western Washington Ryan R. Garrison Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Professor Patrick Tobin School of Environmental and Forest Sciences The non-native, invasive azalea lace bug, Stephanitis pyrioides (Scott), is one of the most serious insect pests of the genus Rhododendron, especially evergreen azaleas, an especially popular subgenus of Rhododendron. Feeding by nymphs and adults remove chlorophyll from leaves, reducing rates of photosynthesis and transpiration of infested plants, and causes stippling on the top of the leaf, which reduces the aesthetic value of infested plants. Severe infestations can lead to plant death. Introduced to the eastern U.S. from Japan in 1916, its presence in western Washington was confirmed in 2007. Research on azalea lace bug in the Pacific Northwest is extremely limited to date. In my thesis research, I investigated the seasonality of azalea lace bug in western Washington, and developed region-specific degree-day models to optimize sampling efforts and the timing of control measures. I also studied the susceptibility of Rhododendron spp. to azalea lace bug by assessing feeding damage in 71 different species and cultivars.

  • Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tingidae) from Australia
Records of the Western Australian Museum 25: 269–275 (2009). Two new species of the lacebug genus Radinacantha (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tingidae) from Australia Melinda L. Moir School of Botany, University of Melbourne, Parkville, Victoria 3010, Australia E-mail: [email protected] Abstract - This paper describes the fourth and fifth species of Radinacantha (Tingidae), a lacebug genus endemic to Australia and Madagascar. Radinacantha darwini sp. nov. is restricted to southwestern Western Australia. In contrast, Radinacantha dondiorum sp. nov. is found on the mid north coast of New South Wales. A key to species of the genus is provided and host associations are discussed. INTRODUCTION Specimens were examined with a Leica MZ6 stereo microscope, and all images were produced In Australia, the Gondwanan lacebug genus using a MZ16 stereo microscope and the package Radinacantha Hacker, 1929 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Auto-montage Pro version 5.02(p) (Syncroscopy, Tingidae) is represented by two described species. Cambridge, UK). A map of species distribution was Radinacantha reticulata Hacker, 1929 has been produced in ArcGIS Version 9.1 (Environmental recorded from Queensland and Victoria (Hacker Systems Research Inc.). Tingidae terminology 1929; Drake and Ruhoff 1960, 1965; Cassis and follows Froeschner (1996) and Lis (2003).
