The 86th Legislature is well underway, and I want to take a moment to update you on my first couple of months as your representative for District 114. Getting Set Up in Austin I would like to thank everyone who has reached out to share well wishes and to visit us here in Austin. It’s a privilege to be serving in the Texas House of Representatives. Serving you and our neighbors is a humbling and exciting opportunity. I look forward to hearing about the issues that matter most to you as the session continues. On January 8th, my family joined me at the Capitol for the opening day festivities and the swearing-in ceremony. I was honored to be here with many friends, including lots of visitors from Dallas to our new office. My two sons joined me at my desk on the floor of the House chamber and helped me cast my first votes of the session. It was a special moment for me as I recalled my own childhood memories of being on the floor of the House in 1981 with my dad, Jim Turner, when he was sworn in as a State Representative. Several weeks into the session, the Speaker of the House, Dennis Bonnen, announced the Committee Appointments for every member. I’m glad to be serving on the Appropriations and Environmental Regulation Committees. The Appropriations Committee is responsible for crafting the House’s budget proposal for the next two years. It is divided into subcommittees to give members a chance to focus on specific subjects within the larger budget.
