The Regulations and Syllabus for B.Sc, Biochemistry, M.Sc Biochemistry and Allied Biochemistry Courses were discussed in the BOS. The Board of Studies appreciated the overall adoption ofthe Regulations prescribed by University of Madras. The Board of Studies approved the Regulations and Syllabus for B.Sc, Biochemistry, M.Sc Biochemistry and Allied Biochemistry Courses and recommended to the Academic Council of the college for the implementation of the same from the academic year 2020 2021. >The feedback given by the stakeholders on currieulum are considered in the revision of new syllabus to take effect from 2020 -2021 Based on the recommendations, suggested by the board of studies and stakeholders new topics like Cancer Biology, recombinant vaccines and new subjects like Genomics & Proteomics, Medicinal chemistry; Plant Physiology and Developmental Biology are included in the revised syllabus. 2 Signature of members: 1.     CHAPTER-1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL : Chennai Metropolis has been growing rapidly and the traffic volumes on the roads have also been increasing enormously. Hence the need for a new rail based rapid transport system has been felt and towards this objective the Government of Tamil Nadu have decided to implement the Chennai Metro Rail Project. This project aims at providing the people of Chennai with a fast, reliable, convenient, efficient, modern and economical mode of public transport, which is properly integrated with other forms of public and private transport including buses, sub-urban trains and MRTS. Chennai is the 4th largest metropolitan city in India. Chennai is often known as the detroit of Asia, is widely known for its presence in the automachine industry and has attracted several global automarkets to setup their factories in the city becoming one of the global leader in the industry.The objective of Government of Tamilnadu have decided to implement the Chennai metro rail project to reduce the transport system. The first railway station in Madras city was opened at Royapuram in 1853. The first to be constructed in South India, the Royapuram station served as the headquarters of the Madras Railway Company. On July 1, 1856, the first railway service in South India was commenced between Madras and Arcot. Madras Central was opened in 1873 followed by the Egmore Railway Station in 1908. Egmore served as the headquarters of the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway from 1908 to 1951 while Central served as the headquarters of the South Indian Railway Company from 1927 to 1951.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has received an ODA Loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency hereinafter referred to as the JICA, in the amount of JPY 21,751,000,000 on November 21, 2008 towards the part cost of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 1,in Chennai; this loan arrangement is the first tranche of JICA total loan, which is about 60% of the total estimated cost of JPY 220 Billion, in financing Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase I. Periyar Salai, Maduravoyal, Chennai-600 095, Tamil Nadu, India 2Department of Microbiology, Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, Chennai Abstract: Problem statement: An increased resistance to antibiotics has been reported in Klebsiella pneumoniae , an opportunistic gram negative pathogen belonging to Entrobacteraceae due to the evolution and spread of plasmid encoded extended spectrum beta lactamases and other genes conferring cross-resistance to other antibiotics. This is of concern due to the increasing cost of antibiotic treatment and the spread of multidrug resistance to more pathogenic microorganisms. This study was undertaken to analyze the extent of the problem, to identify the most prevalent MDR isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae in Chennai and to identify new plant based drugs. Approach: About 188 clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae were collected from Chennai during the period Nov. 2007- Oct. 2008 and their resistance to different groups of antibiotics were analyzed. These isolates were further characterized by molecular studies to identify the ESBL genes conferring the resistance phenotype. Plant extracts were tested against the MDR isolates to identify new treatment methods. Results: Our results showed that the combination therapy of clavulanic acid with cephalosporins and fluroroquinolones-norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin were the most effective antibiotics for treatment of Klebsiella pneumoniae infections.

    OVERVIEW • Chennai, (formerly Madras) located on the northeastern tip of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. • India's fourth largest city and the capital of Tamil Nadu. It is often referred to as the `Gateway to the South'. • The city is located on the Coromandel Coast, with the Bay of Bengal along its shoreline, was formerly a cluster of villages which grew around the British settlement of Fort Saint George. HISTORY • Madras, acquired its name from Madraspattinam which is a fishing village situated to the north of Fort St. George • During 16th and 18th century, Madras was ruled by Portuguese and Frenchmen. • Madras was the only Indian city which was attacked during the World War I. • After India gained independence in 1947, Chennai became the capital of Madras State. In 1969 Madras state was renamed as state of Tamil Nadu. • In 1995 when Bombay was renamed to Mumbai, the ruling political party renamed Madras to Chennai. GEOGRAPHY Location • The geographical coordinates of Chennai is 13°04’N latitude and 80°17’E longitude. It is located at an altitude of 8 meters approximately from the sea level. Climate • Chennai city has a tropical climate and is hot and humid throughout the year. Temperatures: • Winter- 18-32 degrees Celsius. • Summer- 21-40 degrees Celsius Four Divisions: • North- North Chennai is primarily an industrial area. • Central-Central Chennai is the commercial heart of the city and includes an important business district. • South and West -South Chennai and West Chennai used to be residential areas. Though, now they are becoming commercial regions with many information technology firms, financial companies and call centre's.

In the present phase, it is proposed to take up the documentation for 192 Heritage Buildings.
