Yearbook Four 2017 Our fourth Hyundai Motorsport Yearbook explores the growth and milestones of our company during another exciting year. With new World Rally Championship (WRC) regulations, it was a challenging 12 months that provided some of the most thrilling competition of the modern era. Our new car, the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC, was a winning package on every surface and kept audiences transfixed on a championship battle that went all the way to the penultimate round… In 2017, we also branched out with our Customer Racing initiatives and welcomed a new circuit racer to our car line- up. The i30 N TCR joined the New Generation i20 R5 rally offering as part of our expanding customer activities. All this, and much more, is explored within these covers. 2021 MEDIA GUIDE Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Given the freezing temperatures outside, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Arctic Rally Finland and for the first of what we hope will be two visits by the WRC and Hyundai Motorsport to the country in 2021. Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg. -

First Key Visual for Rally Japan 2021 Is Unveiled
Press Release 22 February, 2021 Rally Japan Administrative Office First key visual for Rally Japan 2021 is unveiled Rally Japan Administrative Office announces completion of its first key visual for Rally Japan 2021, the Japanese round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) held in Aichi and Gifu Prefectures this November, and unveils it today. Illustrated by Ryuji Shishido, the straight lines drawn on the bottom-right represent tarmac roads used for Rally Japan, while the white curved shape portrays smoke generated by tires and road surface when World Rally cars drive aggressively. Also, as the event will take place in November, the autumn colours and landscape of mountain areas in Japan have been adopted as the concept of the background. With some retro atmosphere focusing on the long history of WRC, the details in this rally car drawing has a modern look. Rally Japan will utilize this visual image in various opportunities to enhance awareness of and boost momentum toward the event among the rally fans in Japan, the residents of Aichi and Gifu Prefectures, and WRC fans worldwide. ROVANPERA CLAIMS HISTORIC VICTORY WITH PIRELLI SCORPION KX IN ESTONIA Toyota’s Kalle Rovanpera breaks Jari-Matti Latvala’s record to become youngest WRC winner Pirelli Scorpion KX soft tyres star on some of the fastest gravel roads seen all year Pirelli’s reigning European champion Alexey Lukyanuk wins the Rally 2 classification Milan, July 18, 2021 – History was made on Rally Estonia with Pirelli, when Kalle Rovanpera became the youngest-ever driver to win a World Rally Championship event at the age of 20 years and 290 days: displacing the record previously established by his Toyota team boss Jari-Matti Latvala back in 2008, who won the Swedish Rally aged 22 years and 313 days (also on Pirelli tyres, in a Ford Focus WRC). On some of the fastest roads seen all year, Rovanpera led home Hyundai’s Craig Breen, who equalled his best-ever result on his first taste of Pirelli’s gravel WRC1 tyres. Another Hyundai, driven by Thierry Neuville, completed the podium, while fourth place for Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier consolidates the Frenchman’s championship lead. THE WINNING TYRE For the first time the soft version of the Pirelli Scorpion KX was nominated as the main compound, with 24 tyres available to each driver, plus only eight tyres of the hard. This was despite temperatures that were unseasonably warm even for July in Estonia, with ambient temperatures in excess of 30 degrees centigrade and ground temperatures that peaked at more than 35 degrees. The soft tyre’s impressive grip was nonetheless perfectly suited to the compact and fast gravel stages of Estonia – with average speeds often in the region of 130kph – also standing up well to the punishment and forces exerted by the rapid jumps and unique conditions. -
