Keith had a fine match in City’s midfield and was agonisingly close to scoring after 58 minutes, when his shot from the edge of the penalty area came back off the inside of the post. Keith is the second former Orchard player to achieve League Cup success, Dave Langan having been a member of the Oxford Utd team that beat QPR 3-0 in the 1986 final. Arsenal of course, was Keith’s first professional club when he left Cherry Orchard in 1998. He was transferred to Aston Villa two years later but homesickness continued to be a problem and Keith returned to Dublin in 2003. He rebuilt his career with St. Patrick’s Athletic and has not looked back since transferring to Birmingham in January 2009. Keith has since graduated to senior international football, scoring against Armenia and Wales this season and we hope his career continues it’s upward curve. l l l l l1 Orchard News March 2011WEB:Orchard 22/03/2011 13:59 Page 2 News & Views Four Old Boys Play Against Cyprus Conor Clifford (Notts County – on loan from Chelsea) started and Jamie Devitt (Hull Conor Sammon Makes City), Enda Premier Debut Stevens (Shamrock Well done to Conor Sammon, who made his first appearance for Wigan Athletic Rovers) and Conor Clifford Mikey Collins since his 31st January transfer from (APEP, Cyprus) – who all played for Kilmarnock as a 84th minute substitute the same Orchard team – came on in the 1-0 defeat by Manchester City at as substitutes as the Republic of Eastlands on 5th March. CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE Welcome to the 2019 SSE Airtricity League. It is great to have the domestic game back and this is a truly exhilarating time of the year. Last season proved to be exciting throughout the campaign as Dundalk secured the domestic double, the SSE Airtricity League and the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup in emphatic style. Stephen Kenny's proved to be the team to beat last season after a fantastic campaign as Pat Hoban led the goalscoring charts with 29 goals. The Lilywhites will have a period of adjustment though after Stephen Kenny left for the FAI to take on the Republic of Ireland Under-21 position before moving into the senior role in 2020. John Gill has gone into Dundalk to work with Vinny Perth so it will be interesting to see how the Champions get used to life without Stephen. There are a number of teams who have made some noteworthy additions during the off-season with the likes of Chris Forrester and Mikey Drennan at St. Patrick's Athletic, Aaron Drinan at Waterford, Jack Byrne at Shamrock Rovers and the return to Kevin O'Connor to Cork City. I truly believe that this will be one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory in both the Premier and First Division. Shelbourne have made some fantastic signings with Ciaran Kilduff returning to the domestic game and Paul Keegan has made the step down to the First Division with Bray Wanderers. The beauty of the First Division is that anyone of the teams could challenge like Wexford Youths did in 2015, and to see Danny Furlong back at Ferrycarrig Park should excite us all.

Cherry Orchard Football Clubs success over this period has made any trip down memory lane very difficult to compile as every person has a particular achievement they feel is the highlight of the clubs history to date. Cherry Orchard Football Club have produced teams that have won every SFAI National trophy available also the FAI Junior and Intermediate cups. The Club has groomed young players who went on to play football at professional level or provided players who have represented the Republic of Ireland at every level from Under 15s through Youths, Junior, Amateur and ultimately at Senior international level, each one of the above is a tremendous achievement in itself and one the club is very proud of.

And that would be a second promotion for Gary, who with another former player, Stephen Gleeson (MK Dons), helped Stockport County to beat Rochdale 3-2 in the League Two Play-off at Wembley in May 2008. Midfielder Gary (24) joined UCD from Cherry Orchard in July 2004 and was transferred to Stockport three years later. After an initial loan spell he moved to Brighton in July 2009 and has been an influential member of the stand out team in the Division this season. Gary scored from the penalty spot in the 2-1 victory over Swindon on 26th March and having won all eight of their league games during that month. Brighton entered April 13 points clear of second placed Huddersfield. We hope that Gary will be part of a league winning team very soon. l l l l l1 Orchard News April 2011_Orchard 11/04/2011 09:11 Page 2 News & Views Wayne Henderson Donal in Forced to action against Charlton. • European Champions
CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE Welcome to the SSE Airtricity League guide to Irish clubs in European competitions ahead of the start of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League and Europa League season. As the teams from the SSE Airtricity League prepare for their games, this guide provides the necessary statistics and facts for members of the media and clubs to cover what will hopefully be a memorable adventure in Europe this campaign. I’d like to thank Michael Hayes in the FAI Competitions Department for his sterling work in putting this guide together. We have been fortunate to enjoy some terrific performances and results in European competition over the last few years and that is why hopes are high again as Cork City, Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers and Derry City get set for another journey. Last year, we saw Derry City lose out to FC Midtjylland, Cork City overcome Levadia Tallinn, Shamrock Rovers beat Stjarnan, and Dundalk push Rosenborg close over two thrilling games. The quality of football on display was incredibly encouraging and the clubs acted as terrific ambassadors for our League. The opportunity to showcase our League on the European stage is hugely important and that is why there is so much excitement ahead of the forthcoming games. Whether it is in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League, we will support our clubs all of the way. Finally, I’d like to thank the members of the media who continue to support our clubs at home and abroad in Europe. Your coverage is hugely appreciated and I hope you enjoy following our clubs in Europe in the 2018/19 season.
