The winners of the iF packaging award 2014 are honoured for their intelligent and sustainable concepts

Jury recognition for intelligent and sustainable concepts: 95 entries to the iF packaging design award 2014 have been awarded the coveted iF label. The expert jury was particularly impressed with 5 entries whose consistently implemented design and focus on good usability was acknowledged with an iF gold award. iF CEO Ralph Wiegmann presented the gold award winners with the coveted trophy at the iF design awards night on 28 February 2014 at BMW Welt in Munich.

The iF packaging design award is one of the three competitions in the iF design awards where manufacturers and from all over the world face up to the competition. Altogether, 4,615 entries from the areas of , and packaging design were entered into the iF design awards 2014, with 1,626 entries being recognized with the coveted iF label and with a total of 75 products receiving an iF gold award 2014.

The jury of the iF packaging design award 2014 observed a consistently high of quality in this year’s entries, proving that, today, high standards are being applied globally. South Korea put in a particularly strong performance with as many as three of the five iF gold awards going to South Korean products.

The experts were impressed with the wealth of original, practical and innovative packaging , since packaging has long become much more than just a protective skin for a product: it is a design discipline in its own right, where communication and product design are combined in intelligent ways to achieve outstanding results. Functionality, symbolic quality, the ability to be a design product in its own right, as well as of intended use are just some of the strict criteria used by the jury to assess a total of 264 entries.

The Jury

Alongside jury chair Prof. Fritz Frenkler (f/p design GmbH, Munich/Germany) the jury for the iF packaging design award 2014 consisted of: Jenny Fleischer (Beiersdorf AG, Hamburg/Germany), Freeman Lau (Kan & Lau Design Consultants, Hong Kong/China) and Mark Churchman (Electrolux, Stockholm/Sweden).

From 1 March 2014: all award-winning entries on display in the iF design exhibition Hamburg

On March 1st, one day after the official awards ceremony at BMW Welt, the iF design exhibition Hamburg will present the first (of three) shows featuring the winners in the iF design awards 2014. Until June 2014, the award-winning entries in the iF packaging design award and in the audio/video, telecommunications, computer and office/business categories of the iF product design award will be presented as original products. The winning entries in the iF communication design award and in the research + development/professional concepts categories will be shown in digital format.

NEW: the iF DESIGN App

The new free iF DESIGN App was launched on the night of the awards ceremony. All award-winning entries are presented in a stunning digital format, featuring more than 3,300 animated images and videos, as well as comprehensive descriptions. The first version also includes the 2013 award winners.
