The PRINT Livestock Project in FANR became operational in July 2005. The project’s specific objective is to establish a Livestock information management system (LIMS) in Animal Production and Health, Marketing and Trade. The generation of up-to-date and reliable information (with regionally harmonized procedures, terminology and data) will assist the coordinating role of FANR as well as the development of harmonized policies and strategies in the SADC livestock sector. The mission team comprised two SADC staff, namely, Dr. Pascal Bonnet (Animal Health & Livestock Economist, CTA PRINT – CIRAD), and Dr Berhanu Bedane PRINT information specialist. Summary of SADC PRINT mission: The mission comprised one major element: • The launching of the SADC LIMS system in Madagascar with three components: o the organisation of a AIMS-LIMS Stakeholders workshop with potential contributors to LIMS and potential users of the system o a training of trainers from various institutions (cf. list in annexes) o some meetings with key stakeholders in view of their participation to the system, and the group drafting of SoP’s for the management of LIMS Additionally the situation analysis of the LS sector in MADAGASCAR was improved in view of guiding the implementation of the LIMS in the country. Detailed ToR’s and timetable of the mission are provided in full in the annexe.
