DALLAS & “CANNED Band CANNED HEAT, One Of DALLAS HODGE brings infectious Motor City Rockin’ Blues, a booming voice, a comfortable fun loving persona that revs up crowds reminiscent of blues rocker’s like Bob Seger. Dallas and his brother Catfish formed the Catfish Hodge Band , in 1970 recording several al- bums together. In 1978, he moved to Santa Cruz, and teamed up with guitarist Steve Marriott of Humble Pie fame. In 1983, he moved to Los Angeles where he and Catfish formed the Hodge Brothers Band. Regulars included members of Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, Jeff Golub, Teegarden & VanWinkl, Bob Seger and the Robbie Krieger Band. Dallas was also featured prominently on Catfish's Chicken Legs album. DALLAS & “ CANNED HEAT” . In 2000, he became the front man for the legendary band CANNED HEAT , one of the headliners at the original Woodstock Festival. Known for such hits as Lets Work Together, Goin Up The Country and On The Road Again. "I knew I had some big shoes to fill" says Dallas. Even though Bob "The Bear" Hite had passed away quite some time ago, it was a challenge he met head- on. Dallas Hodge is a name that commands instantaneous stage presence. He's the bas- tard son of a Detroit roadhouse ... warp-speed to present day; I Need A Holiday is a stellar record co-produced by Tom MacLear of Rod Stewart and Annie Lennox fame and takes care of the slide, pedal steel, mandolin and Dobro. Other band members include Rick Solem - Piano, Terry Wilson - Bass, Tony Braunagel - drums (Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt), Larry Zack - drums (Jackson Browne, Joan Armatrading) Tom MacLear - Pedal Steel, Bot- tleneck Slide & Dobro, Mandolin, (Rod Stewart, Badfinger,The Dirt Band, Teresa James - Backing vocals, Kelly Clan- ton - Backing vocals (Big Brother & Holding Company, Joe Cocker, Skip Van Winkl - Hammond B3 (Bob Seger, Eric Burden), Lee Thornburg - Trumpet (Tower of Power, Rod Stewart), David Woodford - Sax (Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley), Garret Atkins - Trombone. Well, in 1949 BB was a young bluesman playing at a club in Twist, Arkansas that was heated by a half-filled barrel of kerosene in the middle of the dance floor to keep it warm. A fight broke out and the barrel got knocked over with flaming kerosene all over the wooden floor. “It looked like a river of fire, so I ran outside. But when I got on the outside, I realized I left my guitar inside.” B.B. Said he then raced back inside to save the cheap Gibson L-30 acoustic he was playing …and nearly lost his life! The next day he found out the 2 men who started the fight-and fire- had been fighting over a woman named Lucille who worked at that club.

As everyone is aware by now, it is business most unusual these days, and that affects Charlotte Blues Society as well as the businesses we support with live music. CBS has been taking the cues from City, State and Federal officials regarding our events and gatherings throughout the novel coronavirus / COVID-91 pandemic. The Stay at Home order by the County has indeed affected upcoming events, and we hope every one of our members and fellow music lovers will take this advice to heart and follow it, in order that this virus be allowed to run its course with the least transmission and loss of life. We love each of you and want you to take care of your health, and stay safe: “Stay Home” This is serious stuff friends. You know when The Stones start cancelling dates we are looking at something that is epic. The Blues Music Awards in Memphis are cancelled. Live concerts throughout the Carolinas and the world have come to a halt. This is not the flu. This is not a cold. This is a moment in time that we must take action, or perhaps ,more clearly: non- action.

Robert Cray Bio 2014 With 5 Grammy Awards, 15 nominations, millions of record sales worldwide, and thousands of sold out performances, rock blues icon Robert Cray is considered “one of the greatest guitarists of his generation.” Rolling Stone Magazine in their April 2011 issue credits Cray with reinventing the blues with his “distinct razor sharp guitar playing” that “introduced a new generation of mainstream rock fans to the language and form of the blues” with the release of his Strong Persuader album in 1986. Since then, Cray has gone on to record fifteen Billboard charting studio albums and has written or performed with everyone from Eric Clapton to Stevie Ray Vaughan, from Bonnie Raitt to John Lee Hooker. Recently inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame at the age of 57, he is one of the youngest living legends to receive the prestigious honor. And while he can look back over an astonishing three-decade career punctuated by his trademark sound and distinct playing style, Robert Cray is too busy moving forward on an amazing journey that has him releasing his sixteenth studio album and embarking on yet another world tour. Nothin But Love will be released on August 28, 2012 and will be both his first collaboration with the Provogue record label and super-producer Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Journey). This ten-song stand includes material from all four Robert Cray Band members; Cray (vocals/guitar), Jim Pugh (keyboards), Richard Cousins (bass) and Tony Braunagel (drums) that blends blues, rock, soul and jazz with a lyric-sheet that examines the triumphs, fallouts and follies of life and love.
