An official from China's manned space program has confirmed that Wang Yaping, one of two candidate to become the first female China put in space, is to be among the crew for the country's upcoming manned Shenzhou 10 mission.

Wang Yaping, 35, will join the three-person crew and become only the second female astronaut sent to space by China after Liu Yang, who travelled into orbit on board Shenzhou 9 last year.

"Wang is highly likely to be sent to space if she is in good condition," said Zhang Jianqi, director general of the China Space Foundation and former deputy commander of the country's manned space program, confirming domestic media reports.
