14022 Christel Schaldemose For a better EU. Not a larger one. Vote for Christel Schaldemose For a Social Democratic EU. Putting people before the market For 12 years, I have fought in the EU for the things that matter in your daily life. So you don’t have to fear harmful chemicals, so you can breathe clean air, and so you don’t have to fear losing your job to underpaid labour. We aren’t there yet. The EU isn’t perfect. There’s a lot to fight for. I’m fighting to put people before the market. And that has never been more important. If I get the opportunity, I would like to continue that fight. Christel Schaldemose The Social Democratic Party Member of the European Parliament The EU – a part of your daily life You may not notice it but you are in touch with EU legislation that makes a positive difference every day – legislation I have put my mark on. 6.45 AM 7.00 AM You wash your hair. You’re Time for breakfast. You take using shampoo, and you don’t your food out of the fridge. need to worry. You won’t get ill The food is without harmful by using the products. chemicals, and the fridge uses less energy than before. 8.30 AM You go to work. Perhaps in Denmark. Perhaps in another European country. Nonetheless, you’ll encounter fewer carcinogens at your workplace. 12.30 AM Lunch break. You check your social media accounts. The European rules for data protection ensure that Facebook, Google, Apple and everybody else can’t abuse your private data as they like. 16.00 PM You’re off from work. Maybe you’re driving in your own car, or maybe you depend on public transport. Regardless, both cars and buses emit fewer harmful particles and less CO2 than before. 17.00 PM You visit your old grandmother, who has pneumonia and an artificial hip. The antibiotics and the hip have been produced and approved according to EU legislation. 19.00 PM You go to the cinema with your friends. The movie is produced in Europe and has received funding from the EU as it is produced in collaboration between several countries. 22.30 PM Home at last. You are a bit tired, but your partner gives you second thoughts. The condom or the spiral has been produced and approved according to the EU’s rules on medical devices. Who wants to aid the environment? I do! The world is out of balance. Pollution and climate change don’t stop at the border. That’s why I have worked towards ensuring that we take better care of our planet. We need to speed up the transition towards a greener society if we want to hand over a healthy planet to our children. That’s why the environment is one of my key issues. I am fighting for a better EU. Not a larger one. The EU needs to protect the environment Vote for Christel Schaldemose. For a Social Democratic EU. Who wants to have Danish wages in Denmark? I do! The feeling of security is fundamental when we go to work in Denmark or abroad. Or when others come to Denmark. That’s why I have worked to ensure concrete tools against social dumping. Wages need to be fair and working conditions must be decent. That is why the fight against social dumping is a key issue for me. I am fighting for a better EU. Not a larger one. The EU needs to ensure fair work- ing conditions Vote for Christel Schaldemose. For a Social Democratic EU. Who wants to have toys without harm- ful chemicals? I do! It matters what chemicals can be found in our children’s toys. They should always be able to play safely. That is why I have worked towards getting rid of harmful chemicals in children’s daily life. People are more important than the market. That’s why consumer protection is a key issue for me. I am fighting for a better EU. Not a larger one. The EU needs to protect consumers Vote for Christel Schaldemose. For a Social Democratic EU. Why you should vote The EU functions as any other community. You can keep out of it, you can just be there, or you can choose to put your mark on it. Just like the community in school, at the workplace or in the sports club. I have put my mark on the EU. And I will continue to put my mark on the EU. I am born in Odense in 1967, but I was raised in Søndersø with three siblings and two parents working as unskilled labourers. I went to upper secondary school at Nordfyns Gymnasium, and I have a master’s degree in history from the University of Southern Denmark. I am married to my husband Ib with whom I have three sons. I’m second on the Social Democratic list and I’m running for the European Parliament. In 2014, 64,495 people voted personally for me. The personal votes are important when I enter into negotiations in the EU and continue to fight for what is important in your everyday life. I have the courage to continue to fight, and I have the patience to listen and to learn. For our community that needs it so much. Thank you for your confidence I have been one of the voices of Denmark in the EU for 12 years. And I want to continue as there is much more to fight for. Consumer protection, the environment and the fight against social dumping are the key issues in my work. Vote for a better EU, a safer EU, a Social Democratic EU. www.christels.dk @SchaldemoseMEP facebook.com/ChristelSchaldemose 5041-0856 Svanemærket tryksag.

  • Time for the European Commission to Legislate on Collective Redress
Mr Jean-Claude Juncker President of the Commission Mrs Vera Jourová Commissioner The Consumer Voice in Europe European Commission Rue de la Loi 200 B – 1049 Brussels Ref.: BEUC-X-2017-107 10 October 2017 Subject: Time for the European Commission to legislate on collective redress Dear President Juncker, Dear Commissioner Jourová, I write on behalf of BEUC, The European Consumer Organisation, to ask you to propose a binding legislative measure on collective redress. Consumer rights at EU level have come a long way over the last 20 years. However, the inability of consumers to band together to claim their rights when they have suffered detriment is one of the missing pieces of the jigsaw for EU consumers to access justice. As you are aware, Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to compensate consumers in Europe affected by the emissions scandal. This is in stark contrast to their response in the United States, where the threat of class action has proved decisive in delivering compensation for affected consumers. In your State of the Union speech a few days ago, you said that you are “shocked when consumers are knowingly and deliberately misled” and that you “call on the car industry to come clean and make it right”. We know that despite Commissioner Jourova’s efforts, which we appreciate, the company still refuses to put things right. Since the scandal broke over two years ago, VW remains adamant it will not compensate European car owners. It is now in your hands to decide whether in the future European consumers who have been victims of fraud on a large scale, or who have suffered from a trader’s unfair or illegal practices, should have a realistic chance to be compensated.

The European Commission is fully committed to pursuing the objectives of the Energy1 Union strategy. In this context, the Commission is promoting diversification and competitive gas markets in the EU. In order to complete the internal energy’ market, the Commission supports infrastructure projects of common interest, which improve the interconnectivity between the Member States. Furthermore, the Commission, together with the Member States, is working to improve the resilience of the EU gas system to security of supply threats. To this end. the Commission has proposed a revised Regulation on security of gas supplies on which the European Parliament and the Council have recently reached an agreement. As regards Nord Stream 2, the Commission considers that the project is not in line with the policy objectives of the Energy' Union as it will not give access to a new supply source. Nord Stream 2, if built, cannot and should not be operated in a legal void or solely according to the law of a third country. Mr Jeppe KOFOD and 64 MEP co- signatories Member of the European Parliament E-mail · jeppe. kofod7aie uro pari, europa, eu As a result a special legal regime respecting fundamental principles of international and EU energy law needs to be established.

  • 22/04/2021 Call to the European Commission to Propose an End To
22/04/2021 Call to the European Commission to propose an end to the tax exemption for aviation fuel in its revision of the Energy Taxation Directive Executive Vice-President for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age: Margrethe Vestager Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal: Frans Timmermans European Commissioner for Economy: Paulo Gentiloni European Commissioner for Transport: Adina Vălean Dear Executive Vice-Presidents, Dear Commissioners, We hope you are keeping safe and well. The past year has been very difficult for EU citizens and businesses. The Covid-19 pandemic has upended our way of life. The transport system has been particularly hard hit, and so many transport operators in the EU have seen their passenger numbers drop precipitously. As the vaccine rollout picks up pace, we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. We have a long way to go yet, but now is the time to plan for a socially, ecologically and environmentally just recovery. For such a recovery, our transport system is in need of reform. Particularly when it comes to ensuring that we meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement, we cannot return to business as usual. A crucial issue is taxation. Despite being a fundamental pillar of EU law, not all transport operators pay for the pollution they produce. Aviation produces the highest CO2 emissions per passenger km travelled, yet there is no taxation at EU level on the fuel that is responsible for these emissions. The Energy Taxation Directive, which is due to be revised this year, allows Member States to exempt airlines from tax on fuel for intra-EU flights.
