FOSTER CARE AND ADOPTION

There are approximately 30,000 children in foster care in Los Angeles County. These children are in need of homes – some temporarily and some need forever homes. Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10am to 1pm there will be an informational event at Bethlehem SCV, located at 27265 Luther Dr, Canyon Country, CA 91351.

This is a community effort designed to make the process of becoming a foster or adoptive parent easier and more inclusive for all families. You may RSVP to fosterall.org/events or call (818)649-8000.

WHY FOSTER ALL? There are an overwhelming number of foster agencies providing foster parent approval and child placements.

Each is different in training, services, location, language capabilities and more. FosterAll helps families select the agency that is best suited for them and provides ongoing personal support throughout their foster/adopt experience.

Everyone’s journey is different and FosterAll specializes in making yours successful.

Catholic Traditions Explained Question:

Why do Catholics believe about the resurrection of the dead?

Answer:

Every Sunday, we proclaim in the Creed that we believe “in the resurrection of the body.” Does that mean Christ’s resurrection or our own? Both! Jesus’ resurrection is part of the work of salvation, but it’s also a sign of what’s to come. While death separates our bodies and our souls, this was not the intention RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS of God when He first created us. It’s an effect of original sin. At the end of time, our bodies and our souls will be reunited. Thanksgiving Day is Coming! Scientifically, we may have questions about this, since bodies Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, and you will decompose over the course of centuries. Or what about the soon be saying, “Pass me the mashed potatoes, please.” saints, whose relics are spread around the earth? How the This November holiday has its roots in American history resurrection will happen is a mystery. But we know that our and has grown into a day where we remember all the resurrected body will be our body. If we are in heaven, our things for which we are thankful: country, family, friends, body will be in a glorified state. Some theologians speculate health, etc. Unfortunately, we can find ourselves so caught what this glorification will be like based on Jesus’ resurrected up with travel plans and buying the perfect turkey or body. Will we be able to walk through walls? Will we eat, since that we let the day pass us by, and all we can focus on is Jesus broke bread with his disciples? We don’t really know the how much we ate and who won the day’s football games. answers to these questions. We do know, however, that we will That’s why it is time NOW to begin reflecting daily of all be free from the effects of the fall (such as sickness and pain) things, great and small, that we are thankful for in life. and physical defects that occurred in life. Christ redeems us as whole persons, body and soul! Gratitude is a key characteristic of a good Everyday Stew- ard, but it does not develop in us without effort. In the coming days, we can contemplate all those things God has given us. If it helps, we can create a written list and bring it with us to the Thanksgiving dinner table. The point is that too often we take so many gifts for granted, and unless we pause and purposely reflect, we miss the chance to give thanks. A healthy and hearty heart filled with gratitude can make the highs in life that much higher and the lows easier to bear. Increased gratitude will also bring us closer to the source of all those good gifts, our God.

So, what will Thanksgiving be like for you this year? You have some time to make it something more than it has been in the past. The choice is yours.

- Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK -

Our God is a God of the living. In God, there is no death. While life certainly presents hardships and has its measure of suffering, God does not promise anyone, not even his own Son, a way around it. What He does promise is His abiding, all-sustaining presence as a source of courage and hope so that we can more gracefully and purposefully endure it. Our faith in the Gospel message of Jesus Christ reminds us to carry the hope of resurrection with us in all things. We must never lose sight of the fact that we are works in progress and that what we see and experience here is only the beginning of greater marvels to come. This is why people like St. Paul and others of great faith consider their sufferings as nothing compared to the glory yet to be revealed.
