The impetus for its "futuristic" theme came to a Nameless Ghoul a month or so prior to starting the Infestissumam tour. While trying out a new guitar rig during a rehearsal, the Ghoul created a "spacey echoed" effect that made a guitar riff sound "futuristic [and] sci-fi". At this point, he had the idea for their next album. A Nameless Ghoul said that, because guitar took a backseat on Infestissumam, the band focused on guitar riffs from the beginning of the new album. He explained that part of this was achieved by having four different guitars, each played through three different amps, making four performances going through 12 amplifiers. They used two Gibson SGs, one from the early 1980s and the other from the 1960s; a 1962 Gibson Les Paul; and a Fender Telecaster. Discussing the selection of Klas Åhlund as producer, the Ghoul said that despite his reputation for working with pop singers and having never produced a heavy metal band before, Åhlund had many of the same musical interests as Ghost. [4] A band member also said, "I definitely think that we got a lot of ideas and a lot of new angles that we wouldn't have had, had we worked with a more established rock producer". A member of the band said that the pre-production, writing and arranging of Meliora took a long time, not allowing for the luxury of recording any non-album songs with the exception of "Zenith", which was left off the main album but added as an extra track to a limited edition.

Box 90153, 5000 LE Tilburg, The Netherlands; [email protected] Abstract: This paper is an inquiry into a contemporary heavy metal band from Sweden called Ghost. Ghost released its first studio album in 2010 and, while there is some discussion as to what their genre is exactly, they immediately became a rising star in the metal scene. Yet what is of particular interest from a storytelling point of view, especially with regard to theological answers to philosophical questions in popular culture, is that the band presents itself as a satanic version of the Catholic Church through their stage act and lyrics. This made me curious whether they are trying to convey a message and, if yes, what that message might be. For the present paper, I have focused on the latter by performing a non-exhaustive textual analysis of the lyrics in a selection of songs from each of the four studio albums released so far. Ghost turns Christian liturgy on its head by utilizing devout language that is normally reserved for God and Christ to describe Satan and the Antichrist, a strategy I have called the ”satanification” of Christian doctrine, and in doing so their songs evoke imagery of a satanic faith community at prayer. The band then uses this radical inversion of traditional Christian themes to criticize certain elements of society, especially those aspects they associate with organized religion.

I fredags avslöjade Ghost att världen kan vänta sig en uppföljare till Opus Eponymous under våren 2013, idag avslöjas titel och tracklist för kommande albumet – Infestissumam. Actually, there is no wonder. The lead singer’s character represents the anti-pope who is accompanied by Nameless Ghouls and sings for Satan’s glory. A lot of rumours and legends circulate about the band, partly spread by fans, partly by the band itself. There is also a whole mythology created by the band which they present during their shows, interviews, and via their official websites or social media. Currently, they have been having great success and one of the most interesting things about them is what a huge and independent fan base the band has formed. In this study I will focus in detail on the way the band uses Satanism on the outside – in their work and image, and at the same time how the band perceives it on the inside – their own perspective and its possible spiritual layer.     Ghost B.C. Köln Ghost 24.11.2014 Köln Bürgerhaus Stollwerck  2013 war das Jahr von Ghost. Eine sehr erfolgreiche neue CD, eine richtig gelungene EP und zahlreiche Konzerte und Festivals weltweit, wovon die gemeinsame Tour mit Iron Maiden wohl die wichtigste war. Das zusätzlich sich u.a. Dave Grohl, Phil Anselmo und James Hetfield als große Fans geoutet haben, kommt noch dazu. Nun gab es dann auch endlich eine kleine 5 Konzerte umfassende Tour durch Deutschland, welches sie am Totensonntag auch nach Köln führte.  Und das zog zahlreiche Besucher an. Etwa 500 Gäste tummelten sich im Stollwerck, die gespannt der Dinge harrten, die dort kommen sollten. Doch zuerst spielten die Skandinavier von „The Oath“, einen respektablen Gig. Klassischer Doommetal mit einer wundervollen Frontfrau. Zwar hier und da noch etwas flügellahm und hüftsteif, aber im großen und ganzen durchaus nicht schlecht. Das die Band zusätzlich zahlreiche EPs verkaufte, war dann noch ein positiver Nebeneffekt.  Nach einer knapp halbstündigen Umbaupause war es dann endlich soweit. Ein langes Intro, und die 1/3 namenlosen Ghule erschienen auf der Bühne und gaben so richtig Gas, bis unter tosendem Jubel und Applaus Papa Emeritus II auf die Bühne kam. Und von da an ging es so richtig los. Knappe 90 Minuten wurde auf der Bühne eine Rockshow zelebriert, die es in sich hatte. Die Mimik und Gestik des Sängers war fantastisch, sein auftreten, seine Bewegungen. Perfekt einstudiert und passend zu den Liedern auf den Punkt gebracht.
