The program is noted to incorporate four phases: Phase-I evaluating the learning laboratory (LL) concept; Phase II-field testing the exportability of the LL conce-pt; Phase III-providing a document explaining how to organize', staff, and operate a LL; and Phase IV-implementing the LL concept in various districts. Among topics covered in a section on practicum design are a LL description, LL research, LL cost analysis, and a summary of cognitive data gathering methods. Four brief chapters present information on an approach to meeting the educational needs of secondary special education students, evaluation of the program, the efforts of program participants, and a summary and conclusion. The organizational structure of the high school lab is outlined for four school settings. Appendixed materials comprise the bulk of the text and include the LL concept manual for administrators, detailed information on data collection and analysis, the organizational structure of the LL model, a description of a transported model, literature research, the practicum proposal, the Practicum interim report, anthe annual Texas superintendents report. Card Games to play7 Great Classic Card Games for Children Many classic card games are appropriate for young children, and the simplest can be played by kids as young as 3 years old. | Source 1. Memory (Concentration) • Ages: 3+ • Players: 2–4 How to Play 1. Deal out all the cards facedown on the table. 2. Players take turns to flip over 2 cards. If they flip over a pair that matches, they win the pair and get to have another go. If not, the next player takes a turn. 3. If you are playing with a standard set of cards, you can either allow matching the same number and same colour card or just the same value. 4. At the end, the player with the most cards wins. Variations You can also play Memory as a one-player game. Use a timer to try and get as many pairs as possible in 3 minutes. Try and beat your own score (or someone else's). 2. Snap • Ages: 3+ • Players: 2–6 (best with 3 or more) How to Play Play Snap with traditional playing cards, or buy a set of themed Snap cards. Themed Snap can be especially fun for children, and you can choose a theme to suit their interests (or to teach them numbers, maths or specific words). 1. Deal out the cards around all the players so each player has a pile of cards which they place facedown. 2. The first player turns over the card at the top of their pile and starts a pile in the centre. -

Recommended Activities to develop Fine motor skills and in Preschool, Elementary, and Middle School UPPER EXTREMITY STRENGHTENING: 1. Writing/coloring/drawing/painting on a vertical surface (easel/chalkboard) helps to develop stability in the shoulder/arms necessary for functional hand control. 2. Closely supervised playground activities (monkey bars, climbing), require a lot of heavy work in the shoulders/arms which is necessary for good hand control. 3. Wheelbarrow walking/animal walks activate the shoulder/arm muscles also necessary for good hand control. 4. When watching TV or reading a book, have your child lay on the floor propped on his forearms/elbows as this requires weight bearing through the shoulders. 5. Crab Soccer (soccer in the crab position). 6. Fishing magnet puzzles require adequate shoulder stability, add them to a bucket of water for lots of fun!. 7. Have a pizza night! If you are making dough, let them manipulate it or let them stir it with a wooden spoon to help strength shoulder muscles. 8. Have them help you roll out cookie dough with a rolling pin and decorate cookies with small sprinkles using their fingers to put them on. HAND STRENGTHENING ACTIVITES: 1. Tool use: (picking up small objects (cotton balls) using a variety of tools – tweezers, tongs, eye droppers, turkey baster, cutting different materials (twizzlers, marshmallows, construction paper, straws) – make a game out of using the tools (ie. Who can fill up the cup with the liquid using a turkey baster/eye dropper?) 2. Stringing small beads 3. Playdoh/clay activities – write letters in playdoh, make small balls of playdoh put a hole through it and try to string them, use a garlic press to “cook” with the playdoh, as well as scissors, plastic knives, etc. -
