Dokkoise is a phrase chanted during the traditional dance of the region called Fukuchiyama Odori. This phrase is said to have originated from the calls of people working to build Fukuchiyama Castle when they carried heavy stones and other building materials. The people of the town started out singing and dancing with the calls. And now the slow relaxing sound of Dokkoise brings Japanese people nostalgic feelings. From the castle tower, you can see most of the castle town and part of Yuragawa River. There was nothing but that river when Akechi Mitsuhide started developing the town.
