It is responsible for basic infrastructure and air navigation facilities and for the general operation of the air sector for which it establishes regulations and ensures their application. Ensure the control and coordination of airport activities, conduct international negotiations and o ensure the execution of international agreements in the air sector to which Morocco has acceded. o Apply the guidelines of the Minister with regard to the supervision of the department over public establishments whose activity is related to the field of air transport. The National Airports Office (ONDA - Office National Des Aéroports) is a public industrial and commercial establishment. The core missions revolve around the following areas: o Guaranteeing the air navigation safety at National airports and airspace under national jurisdiction. o The development, operation, maintenance and development of national airports open to public air traffic, as well as the facilities needed for air traffic control. o The embarkation, disembarkation, transit and onshore transport of travelers, goods and mail carried by air, as well as any service intended to meet the needs of users and the public. o Liaison with international organizations and airports to meet the needs of air traffic. Morocco / Western Sahara – Potential Conflict Concerns On 13 November 2020, the Moroccan army entered the demilitarized buffer strip between Moroccan-controlled Western Sahara and Mauritania and cleared the pro-Polisario Front protestors who had been blocking the road near the town of Guerguerat since 21 October. Hundreds of trucks pass through the Guerguerat border crossing each day, which makes the road an essential import route for Mauritania. On 14 November, the leader of the Polisario Front, Western Sahara’s independence movement, stated the Moroccan Army had violated the terms of the 1991 ceasefire when it entered the demilitarized buffer zone. As a result, the Polisario Front declared the 29-year ceasefire with Morocco was at an end, and stated it would immediately resume armed operations against Moroccan military forces. Morocco has said its military operations were limited and it believes the ceasefire agreement remains in effect. In press statements since 14 November, the Polisario Front has claimed Moroccan military unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have operated over Polisario- controlled areas. The Polisario Front has conducted indirect fire attacks against Moroccan security posts, but there are no reports of surface-to-air fire or other air defense operations. The Polisario Front likely still has access to legacy SA-7 man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) and tactical surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems, including SA-9s, which present a low altitude inadvertent risk to civil aviation operating in the contested region.

    ⏲ 19 October 2009, 23:20 (CDT) Hawker Beechcraft AT-6 Light Attack Prototype Production, Flight Testing Progress Hawker Beechcraft Corporation (HBC) today provided an update on the successful progress of its Beechcraft AT-6 light attack aircraft program. The AT-6 is a structurally strengthened derivative of the highly successful T-6A/B/C – the world’s most proven military trainer aircraft. Development flight testing of the first AT-6 demonstrator aircraft continues at a rapid pace, with preliminary flight envelope investigations and initial integration of an EO/IR sensor completed. In addition, the production of a second AT-6 demonstrator aircraft is moving forward at the company’s headquarters in Wichita, Kan. “The AT-6 is a U.S.-made solution designed to meet training, light attack and armed reconnaissance needs for irregular warfare and building partner capacity initiatives,” said Jim Maslowski, president, U.S. and International Government Business for HBC. “Like our contribution to Project Liberty, we are listening carefully to the warfighter and, together with our partners at Lockheed Martin, we are creating high-end capabilities in a low-cost, low-risk aircraft.” The AT-6 is designed to be able to quickly transition pilots between basic flight training missions and complex NetCentric light attack and armed reconnaissance missions. The aircraft will offer the U.S. Air Force and partner nations a robust airpower solution that meets a wide spectrum of needs at a fraction of the cost of other platforms. The focus of the first AT-6 aircraft is integration of mission systems in conjunction with HBC’s partner, Lockheed Martin Systems Integration-Owego.
