19 ISTAT AWARD WINNER – KLAUS HEINEMANN

Chairman, Finnair Mr. Klaus Heinemann began working at Bank of America in 1976 in the Aviation Finance department. He entered the aviation world when Bank of America’s Los Angeles branch requested his help to work with Lockheed Finance to finance the sale of five Lockheed L-1011 TriStars.

Mr. Heinemann subsequently entered the then established EMEA aviation finance division for Bank of America in London and arranged the first-ever warehouse finance facility for in Shannon. Shortly after, he became the Global Head of Aviation/Shipping at the Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan (LTCB) and the Co-Head of LTCB’s London branch.

Mr. Heinemann went on to become the Chief Executive Officer of AerCap Holdings N.V., a NYSE-listed global aircraft leasing company in 2001, a position he held until 2011. He currently serves as a partner in the private investment and holding group, HH Kapital Group.

Mr. Heinemann has been a member of many boards, including the ISTAT Foundation, executive board of DVB Bank and currently serves as Chairman of the Finnair Board of Directors.

He advises newcomers in the industry to “Be in it with your soul, don’t try to pull a fast one with your investor base, and enjoy the ride into the future!”
