Dolaskom niskotarifnih avioprijevoznika u Hrvatsku, putnici imaju veći izbor nego ikad prije.

Palabras clave: Historia contemporánea, Aviación comercial, Política aérea, Relaciones internacionales, Turismo, Innovación, Aerolíneas, Aeropuertos Abstract This doctoral thesis analyses the contribution of commercial aviation to the contemporary history, particularly in the field of external relations, international economy and mass tourism. We have identified all innovations with a structural impact on the industry through specialised press, considering the changes on technology, geopolitics, aeropolitics, business models, product and services, and infrastructure. This methodology has allowed us to write the history of the commercial aviation since its origin in 1919.

The History of Air Transport KOSTAS IATROU Dedicated to my wife Evgenia and my sons George and Yianni Copyright © 2020: Kostas Iatrou First Edition: July 2020 Published by: Hermes – Air Transport Organisation Graphic Design – Layout: Sophia Darviris Material (either in whole or in part) from this publication may not be published, photocopied, rewritten, transferred through any electronical or other means, without prior permission by the publisher. Preface ommercial aviation recently celebrated its first centennial. Over the more than 100 years since the first Ctake off, aviation has witnessed challenges and changes that have made it a critical component of mod- ern societies. Most importantly, air transport brings humans closer together, promoting peace and harmo- ny through connectivity and social exchange. A key role for Hermes Air Transport Organisation is to contribute to the development, progress and promo- tion of air transport at the global level. This would not be possible without knowing the history and evolu- tion of the industry. Once a luxury service, affordable to only a few, aviation has evolved to become accessible to billions of peo- ple. But how did this evolution occur? This book provides an updated timeline of the key moments of air transport. It is based on the first aviation history book Hermes published in 2014 in partnership with ICAO, ACI, CANSO & IATA. I would like to express my appreciation to Professor Martin Dresner, Chair of the Hermes Report Committee, for his important role in editing the contents of the book. I would also like to thank Hermes members and partners who have helped to make Hermes a key organisa- tion in the air transport field.

  • Beyond the Sunset #4 by George Fuller the MONTREAL DAILY
Beyond the Sunset #4 By George Fuller The MONTREAL DAILY STAR of 30 October 1913 published an interview with a Montrealer who had made an aerial voyage in a Zeppelin during a recent trip to Europe. Gerald Lomer and his daughter Clara had flown on a three hour, 175 km tour over the Black Forest from Oos, near Baden-Baden in southwestern Germany. At the time the little resort city was welcoming more than 75,000 visitors per year. Its proximity to the Rhine River and the scenic Black Forest had attracted wealthy travellers since Romans came to enjoy its thermal baths. North Americans were able to make travel bookings to the area through the Hamburg-America shipping line (HAPAG). In late 1909, with partial backing from HAPAG, the inventor of the rigid airship, Count Zeppelin and associates had established the German Aerial Transportation Company (DELAG). The first hangar/sheds for German passenger-carrying airships were built at Baden-Baden and Dusseldorf and an inaugural flight by the Zeppelin airship “Deutschland” with 23 passengers was made in late June, I910. By the summer of 1913 seven more German cities had airship sheds and three dirigibles were in regular service. The Lomers travelled in the L.Z.17 “Sachsen” (Saxony) which had first flown in early May, 1913. It had three 165 hp Maybach gasoline engines. One of these, installed in the forward crew nacelle, drove two 2-bladed propellers on outriggers on either side of the hull. The other two engines were in a rear gondola, each driving an outrigger mounted 4-bladed propeller.

  • Evolution of DELAG International Airmail 1909-1936
EVOLUTION OF DELAG INTERNATIONAL AIRMAIL 1909-1934. BACKGROUND: Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft (German Airship Travel Corporation) often abbreviated DELAG, was the world's first airline to use an aircraft in revenue service. DELAG was founded on November 16, 1909 and commenced operations on June 19, 1910. It operated Zeppelin rigid airships manufactured by the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin Corporation. RESEARCH: Published information about DELAG airmail rates is limited especially for treaty states originations. Rates changed multiple times and are often based on complex base rates and surcharges structure for multiple classes and weights of DELAG airmail. For some originations airmail rates were not yet formalized at the time of DELAG flights. Exhibitor studied postal archives documentation to determine base rates and airmail surcharges. Several discoveries were made including 5 items presented in this exhibit not recorded in Sieger and Michel catalogues. RARITY AND CONDITION: Exhibit includes 56 items known to exist in less than 10 examples including 8 unique postcards and covers. 100% of exhibited postcards and covers were postally used. Despite considerable rarity of many postally used covers, exhibitor exercised great care to acquire material in the best condition available. 1. Introduction 3 5. Early Thirties 2. • How Can Network Effects Explain the Failure of Airship-Technology?
Lighter-than-air vs. Heavier-than-air: How Can Network Effects Explain the Failure of Airship-Technology? ∗ Helmut Braun Abstract: Airships run the first commercial but rudimentary air transportation services. The airplane conquered this business more and more in the course of time. As the main reason for this development the paper identifies a much more rapid growing net of airfields affiliated with a service network for airplanes in comparison to airships. Huge rigid airships needed a different net with more expensive equipment and therefore this net grew much slower along with the affiliated service network. Thus, airplane networks surpassed a critical mass of net-building much earlier and displaced the airship in spite of the fact that in civil areas it was technologically advantageous. Keywords Airship lines, airplane lines, critical mass, growth of networks. 1 Outline of the problem When German rigid airship LZ 129 Hindenburg exploded over U.S. Airship Base Lakehurst, New Jersey, on 6 May 1937 the sole operating commercial airship transportation service was abandoned totally (Bauer and Duggan 1999; de Syon 2002). This accident marked the end of the commercial airship era. This development appeared in outlines for a long period of time and was ignored by the main actors in this field. Usually the modern economic theory of the struggle between competing technologies and net effects is a useful tool to analyze this question. Therefore, any appreciable attempt to build a net or network by establishing operating bases and service routes in the United States, in Germany, and in intercontinental traveling both by airships and by air-planes had to be reconstructed.
