Your Key to Success Welcome to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs 2017
STALLIONS 2017 STALLIONS 2017 Your Key to Success Welcome to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs 2017 Dear Breeders, The nature of the bloodstock industry is that each and every year brings fresh challenges as well STALLIONS 2017 as new achievements and 2016 has been no different. The main concern is that there has been increased catalogue sizes to cater for a larger foal crop of 2015, so the necessity for breeders to focus on quality and value is more important than ever. Happily we have witnessed another fantastic year for ACCLAMATION’s progeny on the track with 17 Black Type performers including Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner MARSHA and Dual Group 2 winning 2-Y-O MEHMAS. LIMATO has again proved a great advertisement for TAGULA in 2016, when competing at the highest level. He was successful in Group 1 July Cup and Group 1 Prix de la Foret and we look forward to even more successes for him in 2017. As we write the first crop foals by the Group 2 Winning and Dual Group 1 placed 2-Y-O MOOHAAJIM and the Dual Group 1 Winning Miler, XTENSION, are being prepared for the sales ring and we are confident that you will be impressed by their excellent quality and confirmation. In 2017 we are proud to introduce two new stallions which will offer breeders a great variety of choice to our existing roster - AJAYA, the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes Winning 2-Y-O by Leading Sire Invincible Spirit from an established stallion producing female line and KODI BEAR, the Group 2 Winner of 4 Stakes Races from 7-8 furlongs, by Multiple Stakes Producing sire Kodiac. -

Welcome to the April 2015 Edition of the Donn Mcclean Racing Newsletter
Welcome to the April 2015 edition of the Donn McClean Racing newsletter. Looking ahead It’s all about the Aintree Grand National now. Final declarations were made this morning, and all 40 runners stood their ground. We're all set. There is usually a story behind every Grand National winner, behind every Grand National contender, but there could be no better story this year than the one that victory for Shutthefrontdoor and AP McCoy would tell. The champ, riding in his last Grand National, in what would be his last race if he happened to win it. That would be the story of stories. Of course, there are other stories lurking. Like the Pineau De Re story, bidding to become the first back-to-back winner since Red Rum. Or the Lord Windermere or Spring Heeled story, both trying to win for Jim Culloty the trainer, 13 years after Bindaree won for Jim Culloty the rider. Or the First Lieutenant story, Mouse Morris' horse set to be ridden by Nina Carberry. Never before has a female rider won the Grand National. Well, Katie Walsh won the Irish National on Monday, so why not? Here are five things that you might keep in mind as you are searching for the Grand National winner: No seven-year-old has won the National since Bogskar in 1940, and none has finished placed in the race since 1971. That makes it difficult for Cause Of Causes and Unioniste. Bindaree in 2002 is the last eight-year-old to win it, and he was only the third eight-year-old since Red Rum won his first in 1973. -

Gold Cup Preview GOLD CUP PREVIEW Plenty of comparisons have already been made between Arkle and Best Mate, and they’re bound to become even more popular should the best staying chaser of the present day complete a hat-trick of Cheltenham Gold Cup victories in mid-March. Just for the record, the following paragraph from Chasers & Hurdlers 2002/3 may help to put into perspective just how good Arkle really was:- ‘In the 1965/6 season, Arkle ran four times before his third Cheltenham Gold Cup victory, starting off with a twenty-length win under 12-7 in the Gallaher Gold Cup at Sandown in November, setting a time record which still stands for the course and distance. Later that month, Arkle took his second successive Hennessy under 12-7, winning by fifteen lengths from Freddie who received 32 lb. Arkle made it three wins from three starts with victory by a distance in the King George VI Chase before again winning the Leopardstown Chase on his way to Cheltenham. Arkle conceded 42 lb to the second and third at Leopardstown; runner-up Height o’ Fashion, who went down by a neck, did most of her racing in Ireland but was worth a Timeform rating of 168+ whilst third-placed Splash, beaten a further fifteen lengths, had won the previous year’s Irish Grand National and earnt a Timeform rating of 157. Arkle gave them a 43 lb and 55 lb beating respectively and was 10/1-on when making it five out of five for the season when taking Best Mate jumps the second last in splendid isolation twelve month ago 1 Cheltenham Festival Issue the Gold Cup in a canter. -

Cheltenham Festival Winning Profiles 2017
Cheltenham Festival Winning Profiles 2017 (Races to be run Tuesday 14th March to Friday 17th March) www.againstthecrowd.co.uk Page 2 Key trends point to Festival winners The Cheltenham Festival represents the pinnacle of National Hunt racing. The G1 Championship races that take place at the venue every March are designed to find the best horses in specific divisions of the jump racing game. • The Champion Hurdle run on the Tuesday is designed to find the best 2-mile hurdler. • The Queen Mother Champion Chase is designed to find the best horse over the bigger obstacles at the minimum distance of 2-miles. The race is run on the Wednesday of the Festival • On Thursday Cheltenham Stages the Stayers’ Hurdle designed to find the best staying hurdler over a trip of 3-miles. • Thursday also plays host to the Ryanair Chase – a race which has become a Championship event for chasers specialising in a trip of 2 miles and 5 furlongs. • On the Friday of the Festival, we have the Gold Cup – the staying chasers’ Championship event run over 3 miles and 2 furlongs. These races are difficult to read. All the most talented horses in each division – at least those which are fit – tend to show up. All the major yards are represented. Every single runner is trying. Nothing is being saved for another day. The championship races are invariably run at a red-hot pace. This, in combination with the specific demands of the track, means that only horses at the top of their game, horses tuned to the moment and horses in receipt of luck in running, can prevail on the day. -
