Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870) Verlust Der Präsenz Im Musikleben ihm das Werk „zu expressiv“ oder „zu modern“ erschien. Dem ersten Programm Satz, der starke Einflüsse seines Vaters, Johann Sebastian Bach zeigt, folgt das „Un poco andante“, in dem alle emotionalen Facetten von !Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) ausgelassener Fröhlichkeit bis hin zur brütenden Verzweiflung Konzert d-Moll für Flöte, Streicher und Continuo H.445/ aufleuchten. In einem überlieferten Gespräch mit Matthias Claudius Wq 22 bemerkte C.P.E.Bach: „Die Musik soll nicht nur das Ohr füllen, sondern das Herz in Bewegung setzen.“ Im dritten Satz werden sicher nicht nur die (Bearbeitung für Flöte und Klavier: Kurt Redel) Herzen, sondern vor allem die Finger der Ausführenden an Tempo gewinnen. I Allegro Joaqu$n Rodrigo, einer der führenden spanischen Komponisten seiner II Un poco andante Zeit, erlangte durch sein „Concierto d´Aranjuez“ für Gitarre und Orchester III Allegro di molto 1939 internationale Aufmerksamkeit. Trotz Erblindung seit dem dritten Lebensjahr - infolge von Diphtherie – folgte er dem Ruf der Musik als Pianist, Musiktheoretiker und Komponist. Sein Schaffen richtete sich auf Joaqu$n Rodrigo (1901-1999) Orchester- und Klavierwerke, sowie auf diverse Solokonzerte, Fantasia para un gentilhombre. insbesondere für Gitarre: ein Instrument, dessen Klang er liebte, das er Inspirada en Gasparo Sanz (1640-1710) aber selbst nie zu spielen vermochte. Tanzhafte Weisen von Gasparo Sanz (1640-1710), die dieser für Juan José de Austria (= unehelicher (Bearbeitung für Flöte und Klavier: Sir James Galway) Sohn von Philipp IV von Spanien) entworfen hatte inspirierten Rodrigo 1954 zu seiner populär gewordenen „Fantasia para un gentilhombre“ für I DeGette – Andante moderato (Villa no y Ricer car) Sologitarre und Orchester. 1998 transkribierte Sir James Galway dieses II Adagio (Espanola y Fanfare de la Caballería de Werk für Flöte und Orchester/ Klavier. Nápoles) Giuseppe Saverio Raffaele Mercadante war im 19. Jahrhundert – neben III Allegro con brio (Danza de las Hachas) Vincenzo Bellini („Norma“) und Gaetano Donizetti („Lucia di IV Allegro ma non troppo (Canario) Lammermoor“) der bedeutendste Opernkomponist Italiens. Seine Popularität verblasste schnell nach seinem Tode. Besonders das um 1819 entstandene Flötenkonzert e-Moll, op.57 „rettete“ ihn vor dem Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870) Verlust der Präsenz im Musikleben. Während die Ecksätze des Werks die damaligen technischen Möglichkeiten der Flöte nahezu vollkommen Konzert e-Moll für Flöte und Streicher ausschöpfen, strahlt der Mittelsatz eine fast wiegenliedhafte Ruhe aus. (Bearbeitung für Flöte und Klavier: Agosto Girard) Allen drei Sätzen ist die emotionale Expressivität der italienischen Oper gemein. Heute bitten wir Sie um Unterstützung für Reinigung und Reparaturen an unserer Orgel, die, in Teilen historisch ihrerseits ein Rückgrat für Verkündigung und Musik in Gottesdiensten und Konzerten bildet. Genaue Informationen über die Sanierungsmaßnahmen und deren leider hohe Kosten werden in Kürze von der Kirchengemeinde veröffentlicht. Nur soviel sei hier bereits gesagt: Die Sanierung hat zum Ziel, die Spielbarkeit der Orgel in seit Jahrzehnten praktizierter Vielfalt zu gewährleisten. Es geht keineswegs um gravierende Veränderungen oder luxuriöse Ergänzungen nach Ideen des Kantors. Gerade der Umstand, dass die Orgel in Disposition und Technik nicht auf eine bestimmte Epoche fixiert ist, macht es möglich, Konzerte barocker, romantischer oder jeder anderen denkbaren Prägung anzubieten. Darüber hinaus werden musikalische Sonderwünsche bei Hochzeiten und anderen Gelegenheiten ausnahmslos erfüllt, wenn sie nicht gerade Zeilen wie „Highway to Hell“ im Text tragen. Beide Interpreten des heutigen Abends verzichten als Unterstützung auf ihr Honorar. Bitte leisten auch Sie Ihren Beitrag dazu, der Orgel ihre vielseitige Stimme zu erhalten. Herzlichen Dank! Important passages in orchestral works such as Strauss’ Don Quixote (1898) and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring (1913) further advanced the perception of the bass clarinet as a solo instrument, and beginning in the 1970’s, composers such as Harry Sparnaay and Brian Ferneyhough began writing solo works for unaccompanied bass clarinet. In the twenty-first century, clarinet virtuoso and composer Eric Mandat experiments with the capabilities of the bass clarinet in his piece Chips Off the Ol’ Block, utilizing enormous registral leaps, techniques such as multiphonics and quarter-tone fingerings, as well as incorporating jazz-inspired rhythms into the music.

Denton, Texas December, 1989 Hollingsworth, Mark S., Romanzas for Clarinet and Piano by Ernesto Cavallini: A Lecture Recital Together with Three Other Recitals. Doctor of Musical Arts (Clarinet Performance), December 1989, 95 pp., 18 figures, bibliography, 40 titles. The lecture was given on September 25, 1989. The discussion dealt with the stylistic characteristics of music for clarinet by Ernesto Cavallini and included a performance of four romanzas: La Calma, Un Pensiero, L'Incudine, and Lontano dalla Patria. Cavallini was the foremost clarinet virtuoso of the nineteenth century as well as a prolific composer of music for his instrument. The works presented in the lecture represent Cavallini's proclivity for a performance style combining virtuosity with lyrical expression. Copies of the original publications of Cavallini's romanzas were obtained from the Biblioteca del Conserva- tory, "Giuseppi Verdi," Milan, Italy. In addition to the lecture recital, three other recitals for solo clarinet were given. The first recital was given on October 29, 1984, and included works by Carl Maria von Weber, Leslie Bassett, Halsey Stevens, and Carl Reinecke. The second recital was given on July 29, 1985, and included works by Bernard Heinrich Crusell, Halsey Stevens, and Johannes Brahms. The third recital was given on October 3, 1988, and included works by Saviero Mercadante, Eugene Bozza, and John Ireland.

    From the Glicibarifono to the Bass Clarinet: A Chapter in the History of Orchestration in Italy* Fabrizio Della Seta From the very beginnings of opera, the work of the theatre composer was carried out in close contact with, if not founded upon, the performer. At least until half-way through the nineteenth century, a composer would be judged in large part on his ability to make best use of the vocal resources of the singers for whom he was writing in a given season, to model his music on their individual qualities in the same way as (in terms of an often- repeated image) a tailor models the suit to the contours of his client's body, or (to use a more noble comparison) as a sculptor exploits the particular material characteristics of a block of marble. Even Verdi at the time of his greatest prestige, when he was in a position to impose his dramatic ideas in an almost dictatorial manner, drew inspiration from the abilities of respected performers, e.g. from Teresa Stolz for Aida or Giuseppina Pasqua for Falstaff. To a less decisive extent, but according to a concept similar in every respect, the same principle had been applied to the instrumental aspect of opera since the early decades of the eighteenth century, when the orchestra began to assume growing importance in the structure of a work. Often the presence in the theatre orchestra of a gifted instrumentalist would lead the composer to assign to him a prominent solo, almost always as if competing with voice as an obbligato part, and there were cases in which instrumentalist and composer coincided, as happened in certain operas by Handel.
