(Initiative) Project Brief Description: In July 2006. the Government has adopted a five-year 'Operational Programme Development industrial wood processing' . The number of employees in the sector would be increased from the current 11,000 to 15,000. Building productive capacity of existing cooperatives and small and medium enterprises, support the launch of new cooperative and the capacity building for cooperative development and support services to small and medium-sized businesses. Capacities Running Period: Start: 2006 End: 2010 Contacts: Croatian government, Račkoga 6, 10 000 Zagreb, Croatia tel: (01) 6400- 660, fax: (01) 6400- 644 e- valerija.smolcic@mr rfeu.hr Aspects to be further inve stigated The initiative of the Government in Croatia with the five-year 'Operational Programme Development industrial wood processing' intends to improve the knowledge capacity of intermediate bodies and policy makers which support the SMEs in industrial wood processing through the introduction of restructuring tools for small and medium sized companies in the sector, to enhance the competiveness of SMEs in wood sector through their restructuring process and to attract private financing for SMEs for their restructuring process in the initiative region. 4 Public call for the allocation of subsidies to businesses in the year 2014. Project Brief Description: In order to develop small businesses, Sibenik-Knin County has created incentives for the following purposes: Marketing activities: exhibitions in the 2014th year, advertising material, market research, etc., Professional training and development: training for traditional crafts activities, vocational training staff in new technologie. Costs of establishing or cover part of the costs of registration and starting a new business.The program users can be crafts, a limited liability company to 250 employees production and service cooperatives, which are registered and operating in the territory of Sibenik- Knin's County and have no debt to the State.     EOSC Association List of provisional Members and Observers CONTEXT On October 28, the non-statutory Board decided on provisional acceptance of new Members and Observers to be ratified during the First (constitutional) General Assembly. Part of the decision was to provisionally accept three (3) members and three (3) observers subject to certain conditions, which were duly communicated to the interested organisations. The decision also established November 20 as a deadline for meeting these conditions, as well as for countries to nominate their mandated organisations. This document is structured as follows: a. Most of them are related to Earth Sciences disciplines, offering courses on geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, geochemistry, earth resources and rock mechanics where geothermal applications are explicitly referred in the programs of the courses. Also Engineering Departments provide education with reference to power production, H&C plant design and renewable energy technologies. Economics Departments offer courses that are mainly focused on social and economic aspects related to energy, in particular to renewables. Most of these Universities actively participate to geothermal research activities, both national and international, and provide BSc’s, MSc’s and PhD’s theses and training. Some Universities give the possibility to activate courses on geothermal resources upon request. However, scientific excellence results as difficult to define in both conceptual and operational terms, because of its multi-dimensional and highly complex character. The literature on the theme is limited to few studies of an almost pioneering character. This work intends to contribute to the state of the art by exploring a bibliometric methodology which is effective, simple and inexpensive, and which further identifies “excellent” centers of research by beginning from excellence of the individual researchers affiliated with such centers. The study concentrates on the specific case of public research organizations in Italy, analyzing 109 scientific categories of research in the so called “hard” sciences and identifying 157 centers of excellence operating in 60 of these categories. The findings from this first application of the methodology should be considered exploratory and indicative. With a longer period of observation and the addition of further measurements, making the methodology more robust, it can be extended and adapted to a variety of national and supranational contexts, aiding with policy decisions at various levels.
