Winemaker Michel Rolland was asked to partner with Long Shadows to craft a world-class Merlot for the Pedestal label. Here, the unique climates allow the Columbia Valley to produce wines that are very fruit-forward, like many California wines, but that also retain some of the balance and structure of European wines. The 2008 Pedestal Merlot has vibrant flavors of fresh blackberries, currants and ripe red fruits that are framed by notes of toasted oak and bittersweet chocolate. It’s dark and rich with great concentration and texture.
